Ringworm, what can I use that's not over the counter? :(

I noticed a small red rash on my upper abdomen on Wednesday morning that looked like a little circle. After sitting down and thinking about it for ten minutes it clicked that it could be ringworm. I went to the doctors this morning and he confirmed what I was dreading - it is ringworm :( apparently none of the antifungal creams that get rid of it are proven to be safe to use during pregnancy so he wasn't keen on giving me any unless it's necessary. Since it's only one little patch, doesn't itch, hasn't spread so far and isn't causing any problems he's said to leave it but obviously I want it gone.

I've been looking for natural remedies to put on it and so far I've come across apple cider vinegar but it's unpasturized and I know this sounds stupid but is it okay to put unpasturized products on your skin while pregnant as long as you're not ingesting them?

I've also read garlic...clear nail polish(this doesn't sound healthy tbh!)

I think I must have picked it up when I took my daughter to the hospital on Monday since it popped up a few days later. Stupid hospitals

I feel for you!

I had ringworms about 3 years ago and they constantly just spread all over my body. I think there is a tablet that can be prescibed by a doctor but I think that might be only in rare cases.

I would say to wash all your duvets, towels etc on a high heat to stop it from spreading further.

Thanks quackquack. The first thing I did is wash all of the duvets and towels when I first suspected it. Now im making sure everything i wear goes right in the wash too as soon as im done with it. It means I have ALOT of washing to do but it's better than it spreading.

So far though I only have one little circle on my stomach and it hasnt seemed to get any bigger or spread anywhere else on my body and it doesn't itch either. How quickly did the ringworm spread on your body when you had it?

x

I would try the apple cider vinegar. I bet you put a load of unpasteurised stuff on your skin really, or at least touch a lot of things that aren't clean. Just don't lick it :)

Hmm people here might think this method is too harsh on your skin, but when my dog was a pup and i caught ringworm off him, i just dabbed the areas with methylated spirits and it killed it right off. Mine didnt spread at all... because i killed it off early. Not sure how big yours is, but maybe dabbing some on the areas might help.

Lots of stuff kills the fungus. Never been pg though, so I dunno about safety during pregnancy. Do your research.

Tea tree oil (bad for dogs, ok for people, mix with carrier oil)

Sulphur cream (seems pretty safe, except in case of allergy)

Genetian violet (stains you and everything else purple/blue for days lol)

probably icthammol would work (considered quite safe)

Topical iodine (some people are allergic)

Some medicated dandruff shampoos (it's not the zinc kind, you want the kind with um benzo chloride or something like that, may be too similar to otc fungus creams though)

And yes, vinegar too (it stings!!!)

Just some ideas, like I said, pregnancy has never been a consideration of mine before. I have a dog that gets random fungus a lot (aka rain rot) and I know a lot of tricks. I think it was medicated shampoo that cured it the one time we had actual ringworm around here. Right now I'm using an iodine medicated shampoo as maintenance.

If u treat it early enpugh keep it clean and dry at all times...I have heard of people using rubbing alcohol to dry it out or peroxide
