Just a few questons'advice please :hugs:

Amelia has acid (silent) reflux - and we had (thankfully) got the symptoms under control with meds. However, two nights ago we moved her from mosses basket to cotbed - we have elevated the end of the cot but can't raise it as high as mosses basket as it is unstable (we use books). Thing is, her sleep past 2 nights has become restless again - finding it hard to fall asleep, waking/crying out regularly and fidgeting/grunting......also have noticed her breathing is sounding noisey again - congested/stuffy nose sounds!

Now she could be getting a cold (daddy has had one) but when upright again the 'stuffiness' seems to go/ease....so is it linked to the flatter sleeping poition causing more reflux episodes during night? If so, what can i do......can't physically raise cot any higher :dohh:

Also, she has become very fussy/irritiable during the day - whinging, lots of crying, though not always a 'pain' cry but unhappy/grumpy - doesn't want to be put down - also her naps have become 20 min cat- naps on me/in swing - she usually sleeps for a good 2 hrs at least twice a day - and she is tired, but wakes once laid down.

So have her meds stopped working, maybe? She is on 0.8ml of ranitadine 3x a day and 1ml of domperodone 4x a day - thing is she weighed 8ib 15 oz when this was prescribed but is around 10ib now -so could the irritability during the day be down to her refux symptoms worsening- she is hardly smiling anymore and she was so content for a while when she was put on those meds/doses :hissy:

Any thoughts? from one tired mummy and grumpy baby girl!

PS - have been told by a 'friend' that babies with acid reflux rarely sleep through the nighttill around 1 yr old - is that true? No sleep till shes 1....im already knackered with all this reflux business.....

friend works at a baby centre so figured she may now what she's talking about........

Jacob has bad reflux. We use a pillow but under the sheet of his cot bed to elevate him. He cant go under it, if its under the sheet. When jacob was on ranitodine it did nothing for him. But the piedtrition said that when a baby starts getting more sick etc thats when the med's need to be revised / upped. Id book to see you HV she can advise you weather its best to go back and see your piedtrition. Then when you go back you can say you were advised and not just because you think, that way they take you more serious etc.

Jacob was and is a nightmare with his reflux. But you do get better days. hopefully it will calm again soon XxX

As for the friend, jacob only slept through for the 1st time last night  and thats after nearly 6 motnhs of no sleep!

Hopefully she will be diff but with reflux they are in pain poor things XxX

Don't know how you surrvived...........i'd never cope for six months

You do hun tho, It does get easier. its hard but you can cope XxX

I was going to suggest something like Ema has said, putting something in the actual cot to rasie the sleeping position rather than adjusting the cot itself.

The sleeping through thing is rubbish, Brooke sleeps through fine and shes only 12 weeks :) dont take any notice lol!!

Ya, like Ema suggested the pillow... We bought an actualy wedge from babies r us (not sure if you have it in the uk) that goes under the sheet.

Shes slept through from a couple weeks before she was 2 months...

I found that once she no longer had night feeds that she slept alot better. And since she has had rice cereal in the evenings she is more comfortable.

Perhaps once she is used to her cot she will settle better? It could be a combination of the reflux and the new bed... Good luck!

Hi

Rebecca also has silent reflux so I can sypathise :hugs:

I would suggest calling your Dr as the doses will need to be upped if there has been weight gain. Its surprising the difference that 0.1 mil can make!

Agree with Ryder about it getting better once night feeds stopped/reduced.
Rebecca has been sleeping through since about 8 weeks so it is possible for a reflux baby to sleep through.

Hopefully its just a combination of new bed and meds needing increased

Good luck
x

Maybe her meds need to get adjusted? I think for a baby under 10lbs, the medicine is different than over 10, but I could be wrong. We only found out Marlie had it after she was over 10lbs. I hate to say this, but she didn't sleep through the night either until 6 months old. It was around the same time that her reflux seemed to go away....

hi

you can buy the triangle pillows to put under the mattress to help with the elevation.

Wtih regardst o napping Hermione only manages 30 mins in the day, although her night sleeping is realy good (except at moment with teething). we keep her well elevated well winded before bed time. to help her sleep she a a regimented bedtime routine (only one of the day) otherwise she tries to get up after 30 mins.

some days are better than others with regards to reflux. she is getting better as she is getting older and we were advised to wean at 5 months by the hospital as solids often help with reflux.

hang in there it gradually gets better and since weaning she is a smily happy baby which was rare when she had her relfux really bad at the begining.
