Hey ladies. A lot of you know I was, and still am breastfeeding but I also have to use formula for the time being until LO gets to her optimal weight. So the hospital has her on S26 Gold formula, both the powdered form and/or the premixed form. I was just wondering if anyone has had any problems on it?
LO was on fortified breast milk for a little bit but we had no problems, but since being put on the formula she has been sicking up at regular intervals, something she has never done, and she seems to get way more wind. Is this just generic of formula feeding, or could there be something wrong? The nurses have ruled out reflux, and I asked them about a protein allergy (nearly everyone in my family is either lactose intoolerant or allergic to dairy protein). They didn't really do anything. Everytime she has formula her stools smell absolutely wretched.
So please help. I'm knew to this whole formula thing.

I don't know much about the formula's, but when I had to do mixed feeding for a period, we started using the GOLD formula of a different brand. LO got very irritable and very gassy. A friend of ours had a similar problem with her LO when on GOLD and her midwife said to just use the normal edition of the formula not the GOLD which had iron in it, she changed and her baby was better on it. We followed her advice and had the same result. Maybe just try the REGULAR edition S26 rather than GOLD???

This is just my opinion based on my experience, hopefully someone else will be more helpful. Good Luck.

hey sweet S26 has a bit of a reputation for making babies constipated, and as to the smelly poo's unfortunately thats can be one of the "joys" of formulas. Also dont panic if the poo's turn green- formula has iron in it which can make poo a lovely shade of army green. I personally have sophie on NAN HA (ha= hypo-allergenic) not for any other reason but because that's what the special care nursery put her on. If you have any concerns about allergy that might be the way to go. Unfortunately babies can take about a week or so to get used to formula so even if they are totally ok allergy wise with a formula it may cause pain but it does pass i promise. If she is having problems with gas - go to the supermarket and pick up some infacol, this will help her burp or infants friend (available at the chemist) can be really helpful for gas, lower wind pain, indigestion and constipation.

I combi fed my LO until she was 13 weeks old. The midwives gave me S26 Gold too and my LO had alot more wind and was awfully constipated. I changed over to the regular S26 and it seemed alot better for her
