Got home from working away this evening to find a parcel from the hospital requesting a second SA - standard letter/instruction leaflet enclosed! Nothing about what the first results revealed. It does state in bold capitals it doesn't mean he is infertile. He's now panicking (as am I) has anyone had this happen and it come back a 'normal' result or are we right in thinking there is something else too this and right to be worried?

When we got our bad results, we were given a copy of the results but he had to also repeat it to confirm what he has.

I hope it was just a lab error or standard for your lab to check a small detail like volume.

I think it depends on your PCT. But my DH had to do two SA's before getting any results.

Hard I know but try not to worry. :hugs:

Thanks for the replies ladies, his second sample is on 3rd July, so i guess it's just more waiting around, another 2 weeks won't make any difference

xx

It's so hard to wait though, even if it's just around the corner. I would call your doctor and ask them for the results of the first one. They have to tell you.

That's a good idea! Not sure if they will have sent the DR the first results, I'll have to get him to ring them as they won't give me his results, but can't do any harm to ask!

xx

I've read the information they sent out out again with a clearer head and it does say they have sent the first results to the DR, so he's rang the DR and they are not back yet, so will get him to try again over the next few days.

xx

I'm glad he called and hope he gets the results this week. I have my fingers crossed for you two!

I had a DR appointment myself today and asked her if his results were back as every time he has rang they have said they are not there! Turns out they were on the back screen and the receptionists don't have access to this!

I knew she couldn't tell me the results, but i did ask when she looked at them, was the repeat necessary or protocol... She said necessary! :(

She is going to call him tomorrow with the results, so should know more tomorrow :(

Hey hun just to say we were told it was "necessary" to hand in two SA samples before we could be ref to a fertility specialist and my OH SA turned out just fine. I really hope this is the case for you. Baby dust xx

Thanks hun, I could tell by her reaction that it was an 'abnormal' result so I've asked DH, when the DR rings tomorrow to get actual numbers of the first test so at least know what we are possibly dealing with... i'm a numbers person and need to know these things lol

xx

ok he's just had hi first results from the dr...

48 million count
18% move strong
28% sluggish

I will insist on a print out when we return for the second sample results!

I'm not familiar with normal counts yet (i'll be an expert by the time i finish googling! lol) Can someone give me an idea of weather this is really bad or not too bad please?

Thanks

xx

At our hospital (Brighton) the standards are:
Volume 1.5 mL or more
pH 7.2 or more
Sperm concentration 15 x106 spermatozoa/mL or more
Motility Progressive motility (PR) 32%
Total motility (PR+NP) 40%
Morphology 4% or more of normal forms.

We have 1% morphology so we're due to prepare a repeat specimen. Apparently, for most men the first sample isn't always right. The second one is always better :D

He actually got more info than he told me over the phone :dohh:

volume - 3ml
liquidation - complete
PH - 8
Viscosity
Count - 48 Million

Strong forward - 18%
Sluggish forward - 28%

Non progressive - 22%
Immotile - 32%

Normal Morphology - 7%

So it's not as bad as it could be, but definitely room for improvement!

It doesn't sound perfect, but I'm so glad you have some sperm to work with! :)
