I had an early scan on 19th Feb at which point i thought i was 7 weeks.

she said there is a 17 x 24mm gestational sac, however she cannot see a fetal pole, yolk or heartbeat.
She said either the baby stopped growing, or my dates are wrong and I am only 4-5 weeks.
I got my BFP on 24th Jan, ovulated no earlier than 13th jan.
It was an internal scan and she said it was 50/50 either miscarriage or small/ early
we are devastated and have been told we have to wait 10 days for another scan, but to contact the epu on monday

i have had no bleeding, have had cramping from day 1 and sickness, sore breasts etc which continue now, so i dont know what to think...

i phoned NHS direct yesterday due to my ongoing and quite bad cramping and the emergency doctor phoned me and told me to see my GP first thing to get an EPU referral.
I went to see her at 8.30 today and she said she would refer me to have a scan in 10 days. She said that she wasnt prepared to accept that i ovulated late and that she didnt trust ovulation tests, and would go on my last period date which was 100% on 28th Dec 2010, she said in that case, it doesnt look good, did i want to talk about my options - d & c etc.
I said, no, i just want a 2nd scan, confirmation and bloods ?
she said there is no point but she would fax EPU and they would call me.

what do you think, hope or no hope ?
i read from everyone else that they see baby / hb etc at 6 and 7 weeks

thanks for reading

I had a scan when I knew I was 6 weeks, there should have been a heart beat but there was just a sac and a yolk sac. Went back 10 days later and there was a baby exactly the size I knew she should have been in the first place. She did say that the yolk sac is a good sign though. Sorry hon, I hope it turns out ok for you x

Unfortunately it might be a waiting game fir a few days to see whether anything develops which is really annoying as it's a very stressful time but no bleeding is good. Maybe in a few days less than 10 try going to a epu and see whether they will scan you. I never bothered with Drs always went to epu as it takes 4 days to get a gp appointment. Depends where u live London but maybe try a different epu to get an accurate results but you will need bloods and scan again. Fingers xed for you it's such a difficult time xxxxx

I had this with my first pregnancy. I went for a scan at 7+3 and all they could see was a gestational sac measuring 5 weeks and I was told to come back in 2 weeks for a repeat scan. But I knew in my heart my dates couldn't be that far out. 10 days later I started bleeding and a scan revealed a slightly larger gestational sac and tiny yolk sac but that was it. I miscarried a couple of days later. Sorry hun but in my experience it doesn't sound great if you know your dates. Hope I'm wrong. Good luck xx

There is always hope in this situation. I get very severe cramping in all three of my pregnancies 4-10 weeks. Ovulation is not a fool proof guide and two weeks isn't much. 10 days is a long time to wait. Can't they do bloods?

hi, the epu called me today and I am going in on Friday for another scan and bloods
fingers crossed

Hi Hun,

I really hope that things turn out well, dates can be funny things and so until you know the worst hold on to the best.

I had a simmilar experience but got just past 13 weeks with preg symptoms until a scan (and bleeding/spotting) revealed what is known as a blighted ovum. The sack grows but no fetal pole, yolk etc... HCG levels continue going up and so symptoms persist but baby never appears.

However, there are a high number of ppl that experience a "blighted ovum" (and some rush into having a D&C etc) that are actually out on dates so there is always hope x

Let us know how you get on, unfortunately though you probably will have to let nature take it's course and allow bubs to grow big enough, if there, to appear on a scan otherwise they will probably just have "that talk" with you again which i hope won't be necessary xxx

I always say wait and make sure! Dr. told me during my pregnancy with my son that they saw an empty sac and no fetal pole and hcg's dropped from 15,000 to 3,000. I was told to schedule a d&c because the chances of having a viable pregnancy "were 1/100,000." I had just m/c a few months before and so I said I wanted a repeat hcg lab. The dr. was HORRIBLE to us. I was scheduled to get the results the same day of the d&c. I requested my labs before the procedure and they kept putting me off. I was all dressed and ready for surgery and the anesthesiologist wanted to prep me. I refused until I received my labs. Well needless to say everyone was so upset by me because only the dr. could deliver the results. Low and behold my HCG's jumped to 60,000. They assured me it was probably a lab error and not to get my hopes up. I couldn't jump off of that table fast enough. 2 weeks later went to the dr & saw that beautiful fetal pole! I now have a lovely, healthy 8 year old boy!
Best of luck to you & take your time and make sure you double, even triple check!
