There's so many things I know aren't safe, some things I know are, but theres a few I never thought to ask about. I've been using sunless tanning cream, mostly on my face so I don't need to wear makeup anymore. What I did read about it, is it stays on the surface of the skin so it doesnt get absorbed. How true is that? Does anyone know? I mean, how about all those creams, vit e oil, stretch mark creams, those are all safe, right? How do we really know?
Another major one,.. I've been getting laser hair removal done. Now, some places wont do it on pg women, just because there isnt enough research on it. But, when I had it donw 11 years ago, with my 1st baby, I stopped going cuz I thought I couldn't. They told me it was fine, the laser only goes on the skin, it doesnt go and further the a few mm so its impossible to affect the baby. I believed her, and my son is ok. But, should I take the chance? The 4 treatments Ive done will be sorta done for nothing, cuz u have to keep up the treatment for it to be affective. I need 2 to 4 more to be done.

So, does anyone know if these are safe?

not a clue hon but I can't see how creams and lotions can do too much harm so long as you don't come out in a rash! x

Unless they're steroidal. I cannot use my steroid foam on my scalp (psoriasis, literally a 1"x1" size) until 12 weeks.

Oh hey, I'm 12 weeks RIGHT NOW! Thank goodness because it's itchy as hell!!!!!!

:D Awesome!! Thats the one thing about pg that I dont look forward to, is certain meds and stuff we have to avoid, therefore suffer! I had a major sinus infection with my 4th baby I almost punched the dr when he went to touch my face lol. Im allergic to penecillon, so theres limited meds I can take thats safe.

I had a laser face peel done when i was contemplating pregnancy. the doctor told me if i was pregnant, she wouldn't perform the treatment on me. She personally didn't think it was unsafe, but it was just industry policy.

I'm starting to wonder about all these things that are considered safe or not...surely if you're not filling your body with chemicals nothing can be that bad...Hell i've only got 2 eyes and I promise you they are not on the top of my head and I was born in the 70s when the done thing was to have as many chemicals in your diet/life as possible! OK done ranting! x

So, are you saying that you think more things are safe then ppl say? I kinda feel that way because everyone is scared of lawsuits. Better to be safe then sorry. I kinda wonder about a chemical peel though, only because your Ph levels change when pg, so the chems might react differently. Also, we are more sensitive when pg. Imagine ending up with a chemical burn? Thats one thing I dont think I want to take the chance on, even though the clinic where they do the peels claim its safe.

if anyone wants to weigh in on aspartame while they are at it...i would appreciate it. i posted also on the first trimester board...but no bites. bottom line...i eat a TON of sugarfree gum but nothing else with artificial sweetener in it.

I know a while back they said aspertine was really bad while pg, but things are always changing. I do know though, there is such thing ad aspertine poisoning, that's with ppm who drink alot of diet drinks and stuff, and I mean over doing it. That's somethIng to look into thOugh, but I do know with most thIngs they say it's safe when used in moderation :)

I agree that most things are lawsuit related. If a medical study is done on rats and they have gestational and/or birth issues, they tend to think the same will happen in humans. We all know that the dosages those poor animals are given would be the amount an elephant would take. :)

I would think SF gum would be fine. You probably chew enough to equate to 1 can of soda a day, which is definitely in the safe range.
