SAHM on income support / job seekers?

amy- i was under impression tht if you lived with someone who was working they was expected to support you regardless...

not saying i agree with it just would hate for you to get in trouble iykwim...

and def agree with you about going back to work it just isnt finacially worth it unless you are very well paid

Could I get in trouble ? Really ? I'm totally clueless about benefits and such my Mum sorted it out for me!

I thought that too

I'm dead jealous your grandad would help you get a house. Mines so rich but he wants us to 'do things ourselves'

id assume tht if you are getting income support and alot of hb tht he is not listed as living with you.. (not on tenancy agreement and IS have been told you are a single parent)

a friend of mine was in same situation (living with a new partner/not babies dad) and didnt feel tht he should support her child (she got nothing from babies dad either) as it was a new relationship.. someone reported her and she was real lucky not to get done for benefit fraud.. she lost her benefit and had to pay back the overpayment..

as for debt im pretty sure they dont take it into account although i think they do take CSA payments..

like i said hope you dont think im being rude  just didnt feel like i shouldnt warn you xxx

i would contact IS say tht you are looking to live with someone and ask how it will effect you benefit.. if they say it will stop i would then inform them (maybe next day) tht you are now living with someone if tht makes any sense!!!

its nice when you manage to do it yourself but still real nice wen people help!

Thank You FA I don't think you are being rude at all thank you very much for letting me know. It's know sort of clicked as to what those Target adverts were about, I'm so dumb :dohh:

I am scared now, luckily all my neighbours call me and my OH 'your husband' & 'your wife' so thank god they cant do what happened to your friend, what will happen though if they say they will take all my benefits away? Would they just expect OH to pay for, him, me, hallie all the bills and the rent?

i think you should stop claiming income support as thts the main one tht will get you in trouble

if you claim ctc and wtc as a couple then depending on his income tht would pay out a joint claim..
you could then also claim hb and ctb as a couple but again depending on his income depends how much you will get..

xx

sorry missed half your questions :dohh:

if someone tells them you are living with someone then the same thing tht happened to my friend could happen to you
and she was lucky..

they also do spot checks so you dont even need to be reported to get caught

if you ring IS tell them your circumstances have changed as from now and although you will lose yr IS at least you wont get in trouble..

and yes yr current oh is expected to provide for you if you are living together..

Oh dear, I am in a pickle aren't I :|

I think we will have to give up the house  We deffo couldn't afford it. We are scraping by as it is.

Why am I so stupid, I should of looked into things, i just got told i was entitled to such a such, applied and I was. I didn't think it could change unless you got a job :(

Amy - you could claim incapacity benefit for ur agrophobia, instead of ur income support. You'd have to have a medical after a few weeks tho.
And you still might be entitled to tax credits, and HB

thts a good point IB isnt means tested so it doesnt matter if you live with someone

if yr income is low then you would prob still get HB but if the only reason you wouldnt be able to manage is because of his debt (ie he has decent income) then they wont help..

After 26 weeks I think it is classed as income tho, i had to let tax credits know how much i get x

yeh you def need to tell them if you have some one living with you and the income they get...and this will be taking into account!!! it doesnt take into account any debt you may have tho..

atm we get £20 a week but thats cos courtney is under 1, it will go down!! We dont get anything else... also looked into what we would get if I didnt work and OH did and its the same

you could claim JSA....though!! :)

If your partner is working over 16 hours a week claiming Job seekers is pointless as they will only pay your national insurance contributions in order to protect your pension, but as you getting child benefit that is done anyway.
