Hello!

Do you plan to be a SAHM (stay at home mom) or a working mom?

I plan on staying at home for at least the first year, then I may go back to work part time (couple days a week or so), or just work from home. Once our kids are around school age I want to work school hours.

It could all change of course, but that's the plan at the moment. WhT are your plans??

In Canada we get maternity benefits for a full year (or share them with our partner or other parent, for a year combined total). As my work tops up benefits, and my husband is a owner/operator of a business and wouldn't get any benefits, I would definitely take the full year off. After that, I definitely would plan to go to work - I don't know how other people afford not to!

It is such a tough decision though, and I wish I could seriously consider the SAHM option. Even if I could afford it I think it would be a tough decision; I'm pretty serious about my career, and am the breadwinner right now, so it would be hard to give up the praise and rewards my job offers, but it would be great to not have the stress, and to be able to make raising my kids a full time job. My mom worked and my dad was home most often, so I don't have the 'traditional' view on it perhaps.

I think either decision has huge benefits and downfalls, and respect each choice (as long as others'd respect mine, lol!)

I would absolutely be over the moon if I could be a SAHM (and would eventually get a part time job after a year). But where we live, because of high prices, it's just not really a possibility. I mean there is always a chance if the OH gets a substantial raise. But I'm not banking on that.

So I'll have to work to pay bills.

Through work I'll get 3 months....and then maybe after that I can work from home 1 day a week until the baby is 6 months. But after that I would need to be full time again.

Kind of sucks...makes me sad to think about it :(
