Just wondering what stay at home moms plan to do once your kids are off to school?
It's always been appealing to me to be one, but when it's all over, what's the natural progression?

I suppose it depends on what you did before you had children?... I am planning to slot back in to my old career... I was freelancing so quite easy!... I'll prob go part time though x

I was a corporate lawyer before going on mat leave. I realize now that I don't really miss it. It makes good money but I wasn't as happy as I am being a SAHM.... but if I'm away for 10-15 years, it will require more effort to return to it than it's worth to me.
That's what made me curious to see what other people's plans were :)

I'm hoping I can find something to do from home. I was a Patient Account Rep but I also have experience as an Administrative Assistant. I hope I can find something doing data entry or typing from home but I don't think it'll happen.

So when PJ is ready for school in a couple of years, I'll have to look at local hospitals for Patient Account positions.

I will be a wahm and suits me down to the ground.
I set my own hours, work around my family and it's not party plan as we tend to think here.
It's given me so many options and next month will be at the Gmex Manchester exhibiting ...a year ago I was trying to see of there was anything to give me that freedom option .
So yep very very happy now ,best of both .

I have 2 children at school and one in preschool (3 1/2 hrs a day 4 days a week) until he starts school next year, were also thinking about trying for number 4. Before becoming a sahm i worked in a day nursery full time as a deputy and a years experience of manager but i definately wont be going back to that, ive just started an online bookkeeping course so thats something i can maybe use inthe future, i would like a little job to earn my own bit of money tho, ive been out of work 4 1/2 yrs now

Hi there, sorry not trying to hijack this thread, but I'm just wondering who you're taking your online bookkeeping courses through?

Hi there, sorry not trying to hijack this thread, but I'm just wondering who you're taking your online bookkeeping courses through?

Its thru learndirect, its a bundle: bookkeeping 1 & 2, instant accounts and sage line 50, it is on there for £294 but I got it thru a groupon deal for £59  They issue a certificate of completion but dont think its a proper qualification but if u look on learndirect they have the exams for bookkeeping 1 & 2 (£59.99 each I think), I just thought even if I do this it shows that I have a knowledge and know how to work the system and when looking at jobs online alot of jobs say need knowledge not necessarily qualification, I used to do account work in the day nursery that I worked in and sage is similar to that so Im confident I can do it

Well, I'm planning on having 4 kids, they'll probably be spaced 2-3 years apart, soo...they should be school age (the youngest) in say 2022 (I'll be 36) I'll either kick my photography back into business, and up a notch or I'll get a part time job somewhere, OR if it's affordable, and we decide it's the right thing to do, I'll just stay at home and be a homemaker...Not sure if returning to work at 36 will be scary or exciting!

I am continuing to work part-time (which saves my sanity and makes me a much more patient parent) and I will go back full-time once both boys are school age. I really love my work and definitely want to be back in the work force full-time.
If you aren't missing your former job, is there another version of it that appeals to you? Another type of law? Or a related position that doesn't need as many hours? Just so that you aren't starting at square one?

I am also working part-time at home doing some freelancing,.5 months in the job and its really a great help. Started in a data entry,.luckily now I have some regular clients and my rates are higher as I got more experienced. As of now I am still learning some new skills, one of them is photoshop..they pay big bucks for each edited picture..lol

I've done other types of law but corporate was the lesser of all the evils ...all of the unrealistic demands of clients made having an infant a welcome vacation! lol
I'd like to stay as far away from desks as possible in my new life, I was even thinking of starting up a farm.

Actually, with the projected hike in groceries from this summer's drought, you'd probably make a killing!
Of course, you have a wee bit of gardening to do in there somewhere, but hey! :)

Nope, no joke. We used to live on a farm but I never paid too much attention to what my parents were doing but I'm sure some of it must have seeped in to my brain even through osmosis lol

Well... first off, I beg your pardon for assuming that a corporate lawyer would not know her way around a farm! And secondly, if you do it right, it could be a pretty fantastic lifestyle and a decent income. Are you close enough to a city (I am assuming so since you are in corporate law?) or two where you could get in on Farmer's Market action?
The only thing is - you would need to make enough to hire some help, right? Because farmwork is typically long hours in all sorts of weather - not easy with little ones.
But kind of an ideal life. I think you should go for it!

Ive been a sSAHM for almost 2 years now. My son is in 3 rd grade, and my daughter wont be in school until next year, and then we have baby on the way. The plan is I will def. be home until baby starts school, but even then, DH really wants me to be home. Not just to take care of the house, but then theres someone who is always there if something were to happen at school, and no worries about schedule conflicts. If I do work, Id really like to work from home. I used to have a small shop online and did really well with it, so I might do that, but going back to work probably isnt in the cards. If I absolutely had to, I would, but if I dont need to, it would be nice to be at home for the kids still that way they always have everything they need and I can make sure everything gets taken care of. My husband is like a kid himself. LOL, I have to even get up at 5am to get him ready for work otherwise he cant get up.

This is the reason that if we can afford it, I'll stay home! I really think I'll be just doing the wedding season photography wise, so DH will be home anyway (weekends)

I'll be homeschooling and probably wont be done having babies til I'm 40, so I'll be nearly 60 before my youngest leaves home probably lol. However, I do plan to do a bit of work from home as well (at least before I start homeschooling as there will be no time then lol)
