Cow and Gate Formula is now £7.25 in Tesco's.

I finally got my milk tokens through ( healthy start) though they didnt give me any for the first two months (should i phone and demand they backdate them as i put the form in when i was pregnant?) i get two tokens a week £3.10 each so £6.20 a week

£6.30 isnt enough to even by one tin of milk though! The price of baby milk varies so much! ive had to buy a mini tin of SMA 2 from work before in the shop and the mini tins arent even half of what a standard one is and i piad nearly £7 for it but it was a sunday and i couldnt get it when i got out of work at 8pm as nowhere in the area was open!
Every shop seems to vary by up to £1! i try to buy it in Boots now when they have the 2 for £12 offer on. And with SMA 2 & 3 you can get advantage card points!

I used the ready made and that was the same price give or take a few pence everywhere, now i use the SMA toddler milk and its SO hard to find, drives me nuts, but Morrisons sells it and have it on offer for £6 a tub instead of £7.25 atm so i got a few and stocked up

i noticed that in tescos its shocking! babiies need milk why make it so expensive?

I find Asda soooo much cheaper for formula.

Lola is on Aptamil Comfort - £8.75 in asda compared to £9.55 in tesco and sainsburys!!!

I got my healthy start vouchers through the other day, and normally I get 3 tubs of formula and have about £1.50 left to spend on milk and vegetables.

This time, I bought the 3 tubs, and had to pay an extra couple of quid on top - surely they should increase the value of the tokens?!

By the way, anyone who's sitting there thinking "shut up you ungrateful scrounger" - just so you know, I'm struggling SO much for money that I don't even have a cooker, fridge, carpets of furniture in my flat.

Bit off topic hun, but try your local freecycle - google it. Tere always giving away that kind of stuff for free! xx

The milk vouchers are usually put up a little in April in line with the cost of living.
I actually didn't know that formula cost differently from different places, I always assumed it would have a set price.. no idea why!

I do have a question though.. can milk vouchers be used online? I doubt it but thought I'd ask!

I don't actually think they can :( So bloody annoying! x

is everybody entitled to milk tokens?

Sadly not, they're for people on income support or job seeker's allowance x

They're actually given to people who get child tax credits (but not working tax credits) too! You don't have to be on income support.

From the healthy start website:
Do I qualify?
You qualify for Healthy Start if you're pregnant or have a child under four years old AND:
* you or your family get Income Support, or
* you or your family get income-based Jobseeker's Allowance, or
* you or your family get Child Tax Credit (but not Working Tax Credit unless your family is receiving Working Tax Credit run-on only*) and have an annual family income of below £16,040 or less (2008/9)

OR:

* you're pregnant and under 18 years of age

xx

There is only a minimum price so thats why some shops charge more :(

Katie - do you not have a furniture project where you live?

Wow - I order soy formula from tesco pharmacy and the lady who sld it to me said this is gonna cost you a lot! I thought oh gosh, how much is this stuff gonna be - it was £8.83 - so not much different to normal formula! although I guess it will go up too!

Does your LO have to have soya or is it your choice? If its needed you can get it on prescription :)
