I'm scheduled for C-section #3 (and my final one) on July 1. I requested a tubal ligation during the surgery, and my OB said no problem, but that he prefers a full salpingectomy over tubal ligation. Apparently they are now finding that many ovarian cancers originate in the tubes, and so it's better to remove the tubes than to simply cut/cauterize them. He said not only does the tubal removal serves as a preventative for ovarian cancer, but that it's cheaper to do a round of IVF than to have cut/cauterized tubes re-attached, and so there is no financial benefit to cutting or cauterizing them.
