So because my first born was tiny, 5lb 3oz I've got to have scans every 3 weeks to make sure this one is growing. It's not going to be easy to get to because my BiL needs to get to school in the mornings and his mum refuses to let him catch the bus or walk etc.
What got to me the most though was that when we told my MiL her reaction was "you'd think that by now they'd realize that she was growing properly". I said "well no, Amy was growing normally until a certain stage then stopped, they're keeping an eye on that to make sure it's not something my body is doing to stunt the growth" to which I got "thats ridiculous, you shouldn't need any more scans."
So she's not concerned about the rate this baby grows at all. I really had to bite back what I was going to say to her because I was stood in front of my niece and nephew although my niece came to my rescue. "That wasn't very nice nana, what if the baby is small?" My MiL couldn't really say anything back because my SiL gave her a "she's right" look. My niece is only 4 bless her.
Back on topic though. Has anyone else had to go for extra scans?

Good for your niece. I'm not having extra scans, although I did in my first pregnancy due to a previous pregnancy with a chromosomal defect but I didn't want to read and run and your nieces comment made me chuckle. They wouldn't have you in for regular scans if there wasn't some benefit in it, I'm sure, despite what your mil thinks.

i have extra scans due to gestational diabetes, i've had a scan every week since i was 32 weeks and will have one every week til i deliver.

Glad to see I'm not the only mum to be who has to go in for extra scans lol. My MiL is a bit of a nightmare at times. VERY self opinionated.

Yeah another one with a small baby here :hugs:
Well was small but at the last scan she seems to be growing a bit better.
I have another scan on friday which will be my 5th this pregnancy. :hugs:

Sorry to hear this is tricky for you hun but as you know
also essential. Im sure its a weight off your mind.

Yip ive been having extra scans was 2 wks apart then they moved
to every week....they do take theyre toll on you dont get me wrong
but needs must.

I was having mine due to low fluid & i am on insulin so dont want
him growing too fast x

I have a scan Friday at 29 weeks and another at 34 weeks to check she isn't getting to big, this is because I have a raised BMI, She hasn't measured anything other than spot on so far along, my gut says she wont either (I haven't as yet gained a single pound this pregnancy oddly)... I don't have GD either, so was really surprised at all the extra attention..but delighted.

The main reason it's a nightmare for us is because we have to fit it around my youngest BiL. His mum won't let him walk home or catch the bus. He has friends he can catch lifts back with but he's the type of kid to wants his mum there when he gets home, whinges if he has to go out then complains that she was out too long. We can't arrange scans for any earlier than 10am and no later than 2pm. It give a huge space in between but if my MiL has to rush off to pick up my BiL we're stuck at the hospital. He won't accept that these scans are needed and that I can only arrange them when the appointments are avaliable so I've had to put up with tantrums from him and my MiL about getting there. I told her she can arrange the appointments in future. I just feel like I'm being forced into overlooking the health of my child for hers. She spoils him rotten though so it's not come as a surprise about the tantrums. My OH and his other brother get ignored and he gets every ounce of attention etc.

i also have extra scans, every fortnight since 27 weeks because they thought i may have been exposed to parvo-virus (slap cheek) at around 23 weeks. i have similar problem in that i don;t drive, have a .5 yr old and they don't allow children into the scan, also my hubby's a teacher and taking time off is beginning to wind up his work as it takes 40mins just to get there and they're ALWAYS running late-i've given up drinking extra water as i was in so much pain in the waiting room! i love having the extra chances to see our little man but i wish they would have more convenient scanning times!!!!!!! x

I hear you on that one. My MiL tends to try to get me to cancel and just skip the scans if possible. If it means keeping a check on my LO to make sure she's growing there's no way I'm cancelling. She takes turns to do the school runs with one of my BiL's school friends so why she doesn't ask to switch from doing the morning run to the afternoon run I don't know. This friend has suggested it to her too. I tend to like to go for the earliest appointment to avoid those who are running late (the hospital waits for them instead of bumping people up and putting them in when they can). The sooner our car is back on the road the better. I don't have to worry about making appointments at daft times then.

I've had 4 scans this pregnancy. The dating scan was first. After that was supposed to be the anomaly scan, but it turned out I was further along than thought. Then was the 20 week scan. They discovered I had "eccentric insertion of the umbilical cord". This just means that the umbilical cord attaches to the placenta on the edge of the placenta instead of the middle. However, they normally recommend scans every 4 weeks in this case, to ensure the baby is growing properly. I went for one at 25 weeks and the LO was significantly larger than average, so they are comfortable with no more scans for the time being.

Hello ladies, im also having scans every 2 weeks due to my first son being born sleeping at 36 weeks so they are monitoring this little fella constantly to make sure he is always growing.

Luckily i have no complaints about getting to the hosp etc Hope you all manage to find it abit easier soon.

xxx
