I had a miscarriage at nearly 12 weeks at the end of June 2011. It was a painful and traumatic experience as you guys will know. It made it so much worse everyone knowing and being awkward around me. I've just got a positive test and I can't be more then 4 weeks so have only told my mother. Whats the next steps, I have a doctors appointment on wednesday but will they give me an earlier scan to check how things are? What is the best time to tell people? Is there a great chance of the same thing happening again?

Unfortunately, a scan won't tell you much so early but the doctors can arrange for blood tests to see how your pregnancy hormone levels are (hcg) and that might give you some positive hope!

Unfortunately, there are no guarantees to a successful pregnancy this time, BUT every pregnancy is different. If your previous mc was due to chromosonal problems, it is unlikely to happen again, but obviously, unlying conditions can cause mc (in my case, we think that my undiagnosed underactive thyroid may have contributed to lengthy ttc, whether caused my mc and two possible chemicals, is an unknown.). Take your multi-vitamins, watch your diet and just generally try to rest and relax as much as possible. It is NOT easy, but try and remain positive.

I had an early scan at 9wks and this time, we are six weeks (!) from scheduled c-section for our 'first' child, but you will worry every single day (I still do!). I think it's up to you when you tell other people, but I unofficially told my mom at 10wks and my MIL (with 12wk scan) at 12wks.....

but, best wishes and congratulations! Wishing you a very happy 9 months!

Thanks alot, regarding an early scan I meant about 8-9 weeks, Waiting 12 weeks to hear the heartbeat seems an eternity. Congratulations on your lo.
