Scared to stop progesterone

Ive been on Crinone 8% once a day since I was about 7 weeks...I don't go back to my OB until the 30th [ill be 16+3] He said usually they don't stop until 14 weeks. Ive been through so many losses im terrified to stop taking it. I def wont stop taking it until I go back on the 30th but even after that ill be so scared. Any advice?

MKL - I'm thinking you probably know this already but, in case you don't or aren't sure - The progesterone issue for women is based only on the corpus luteum not producing sufficient amounts to sustain pregnancy until the placenta takes over. Once the placenta takes over the corpus luteum and its production of progesterone is no longer required....

In fact, if the corpus Luteum is removed from the body after 9 weeks of pregnancy the pregnancy doesn't suffer because the baby/placenta generates enough of its own to get by. The amounts of progesterone generated by the placenta become astronomical. You would have to be supplementing in ridiculous amounts to keep up with it. The placenta has entirely taken over production of progesterone by 12 weeks so by 14 weeks certainly you would be very safe to stop it......

I took progesterone. My OB told me I could stop taking it anywhere from 10-12 weeks. I stopped a little after 10 weeks. As you can see from my ticker, so far, things have continued to go well and baby girl is healthy and kicking as we speak!

With DS, I stopped at almost 13 weeks because that's when my prescription ran out. With DD, it was 14 weeks and for the same reason. With this baby, I think I'll have enough to put me well into the 14th week but I'm on a higher dosage this time so I might wean myself off by dropping down to one pill a day for a week so it might be 15 weeks before I'm fully done.
