hi my name is tinker i,m 27 and from manchester uk and 12 weeks pregnant this is my 4th child all other pregnancy's have been ok no problems but now i,m being tiold i,m overweight thats fine i knew i was slightly overweight but the things there telling me is kinda scarey .. the consultant has told me i will have to have injections each day for 6 weeks and inject myself i will have to have several blood tests to check for diabetes ect and that she wants me to stay in hosp for 1 week due to being "extemely high risk" in her words this all scares me as all 3 other pregnancys were fantastic i,m so scared i honestly dont think i could inject myself i asked if it was possible my partner could do it she says simply no I have to do it the things i,m being told is scareing me i want whats best for me and baby i,m only 15 stone i know i am overweight but never thorght as extremely obese

:hi: first of all welcome to the forum. Is it gestinational diabetes that you have? I don't know much about it but I thought it showed itself much later on in the pregnancy. Is there any way you could have a second opinion, maybe find a doctor who is a little more sympathetic and helpful?

 I honestly think you should get another doctor. She's completely overreacting to your weight. I was 173lbs when I got pregnant and I'm barely 5'1 and didn't need any kind of injections etc, I just had to get my glucose test done 3 or so weeks earlier than normal and everything turned out just fine. Not once did my doctor mention that being over weight would mean high risk. I know a few other girls on here too that are over weight and didn't need that kind of care or monitoring. I'm really sorry that this doctor is stressing you out like this, its not called for especially since your other pregnancies had no complications. :hugs: I would seriously think of getting a second opinion. :hugs:

She may be over reacting but I think she does mean well. Even though she said your high risk and wants you to stay in Hospital for a week it's just because she's thinking of your little baby :).

But if you do think you should change Doctors and it would make you feel better then you should, and 3 healthy pregnancies! Has she not mentioned them?

But I have never ever heard about all the injections etc etc and why your partner wouldn't be able to help with it. Good Luck with your pregnancy! You've already made it to the 12 weeks mark which I cannot wait to get to :hugs:.

What are the injections for? No reason why your oh could not be shown how to give them, surely its not relevant who gives them as long as they are confident in giving them. Think the doctor is being rather pessimistic.:hugs:

Hello :hi:

Welcome to Baby and Bump!

Congratulations hun, wishing you a very healthy and happy pregnancy!

Your Doctor is spouting rubbish at you!!! Change your Doctor ASAP so you can start to enjoy your pregnancy, you really are not bad by any means there are plenty at that weight and higher who have very successful pregnancies, without injections, what the hell are these so called injections? Unless s/her has already diagnosed you with gestational Diabetes, like 15 weeks too soon!

Get a new Doctor and peace of mind hun, you really are not even within the weight that they consider high risk! :hugs:x
