My gorgeous baby girl was born on the 16th of January, so this is almost 4 months late but here goes.

On the 14th January, I carried my almost 3 year old son to bed just before 10pm, I'd just put him into bed when I felt a little trickle, I thought I had weed a little, but knew it wasn't wee, I went to the toilet anyway, changed my pants, got into bed, rolled over and felt it again. I kind of figured it was my waters leaking, I was due on the 19th. I told my OH when he came to bed, then I kept feeling a bit more leak out every now and then, I was tossing and turning, couldn't sleep. I then started feeling little niggly pains so I went downstairs and rang the labour ward, MW said to go in at 8am to get checked unless I needed to go in sooner. My sister came over just after midnight. Pains were getting stronger so I rang my mum, her and my dad came down, so did FIL as my dad and sister had word in the morning, they all arrived roughly at 4am while I was still packing my hospital bag. Alex was awake by now. I have a photo of him playing on his car at roughly 4:30am!
Throughout the early hours the pains were quite strong but irregular and had eased off by 6am. My mum and OH took me to the hospital at 8am, MW confirmed my waters had gone but I was only 1-2cm dilated! She said baby felt quite small. She said I was to go back at 10pm to be put on a drip to get started off if I hadn't gone before then. We went for a walk around Asda afterwards, mum bought a pack of tiny baby babygrows and an outfit for Alex, then we had breakfast. Got back home at about 10.30 when I took Alex for a nap. MIL picked Alex up at 1pm and FIL had gone back home for some stuff, my mum had gone for a nap also. Me and OH took the dog for a walk but it was so windy and cold we couldnt stay out for long and besides I kept needing the toilet. We got back and I had a nice long bath. My mum had done my ironing while I bathed. Hardly any pains all day. Even helped OH put a shelf up!
FIL picked Alex up from MIL's at about 5pm and we had KFC for tea at about 6pm and the pains started coming back. I tried not to let Alex see I was in pain and I remember my sister laughing at me!
9pm I decided we would go to Tesco before heading back to the hospital, I'm glad it wasn't busy as I had a contraction in the middle of the road. So walking round Tesco's I was contracting. We head back to the hospital, I told the MW I was having contractions for a while now. They had me do a urine sample before hooking me up to the monitors, this was at about 10.20pm. Contractions were getting atronger and OH and my mum were just making me laugh, every time I laughed the monitor was making a noise which made me laugh even more! The MW came back a few times but didnt check me, just said the doctor was just finishing up in theatre. About 11:15pm the MW checked me and I was 7cm dilated, thank god as I was in pain! I would of been so disheartened if I was any less. So changed into my nighty, they wheeled me to the labour ward as I couldn't walk. They tried to get me onto the bed to hook me up to the monitor again but I just needed to stand, OH rubbed my back but didnt want anyone touching me, MW started rubbing bottom of my back and told her to stop I couldn't handle being touched. I needed a wee so mum took me (it was an ensuite) come back out and needed a wee again, MW came with me, I just sat on the toilet, I needed to push, I was on the floor at this point and MW was saying she needed to get me on the bed (my mum and OH said they both ran into the bathroom as all they heard was me shout "get off me" lol I don't remember that bit) so i get on the bed eventually on all fours (i gave birth to Alex like this) as I felt most comfortable, the MW forced me on to my back because she needed to get the monitors on...didnt get them on in the end. A few pushes and Scarlett was born, midnight, on the dot! Only 4 minutes of pushing. Making it the 16th she was born. She was 5lb 8oz and absolutely perfect. One of the MW's from the ante natal ward was a student midwife who I had seen a few times in clinic and she stayed for the birth which was nice.
It all seemed hectic when I got on the labour ward and the only thing I would change is the position giving birth. I think if I could relive that day I would tell the MW where to go I'm giving birth how I want. A wierd thing happened when everyone left the room for a bit was the clock just started spinning so fast forwards for ages. We looked again and it stopped. I like to think it was a sign that my grandparents were there.

I like to think it was our grandparents, none of mine are alive and never met my children, OH's grandad had never met my children and his nanna had only met my son. It was so wierd how it did that, then we looked again and it was back to the correct time. We never did ask the MW if it had done it before.
