I am so annoyed at my clinic. I wasn't even sure where to post this. I have GD and am considered high risk. A pregnancy like mine is safely delivered any time after 38 weeks. With all the risk of the baby getting too big or god forbid dying due to my GD I would like to have him at 38 weeks.

They'd like me to wait until 39 weeks but the OR is booked up so I have to wait until the full 40. I am a complete mess and a nervous wreck.

GD gets worse at the end and things can go from okay to really bad quickly and with no warning. I am so worried that something horrible is going to happen. I have had a very stressful pregnancy and just when I was starting to relax a bit this has happened.

Why wouldn't your doctor know to book you earlier? With GD you are delivered early no matter what, and with c-sections they like to do it a week before your c-section. I don't know why they would want to wait until you are 40 weeks, I would be upset too!

I have a growth scan tomorrow, Thursday. I will be seeing a doctor then and finding out the baby's measurments and all that good stuff. I'm definitely planning on mentioning this to him and expressing my concern. I was told at the clinic that if anything changes between now and then they can and will change my date.

They were able to find me an opening on January 4. I feel more comfortable with this for some reason. Maybe it's just a gut instinct...

I know it's only 3 days difference but I am much more relaxed now. They said they really want me to go to 39 weeks as my GD is well controlled and I am taking care of myself. They said that when they take babies at 38 it's usually because the mother's don't take proper care of the GD (at this hospital anyway).

Well if I go into labor they've said to come in and they'll just do my c-section then. I figure if he's ready, he'll come.

Im confused! - why is GD so dangerous!?

Iv been told i have GD, although my bloods stay really low and my baby is actually shrinking (along with my waistline!!) but i didnt know it could be such a threat if left to term, or do you have something else that would consider you high risk?)

I can understand the risk with a too big baby but as you were having a section anyway, i wouldnt have thought that to be too much of a concern.

I have high BP too but nobody seems concerned about letting me go to term x

don't fret hun x x

I had GD in 2011 when I had my daughter and I was well controlled on diet only and my levels were always good, I was induced at 39 weeks with an attempt at vbac, as my eldest and first born was a emcs, my daughter was born at 39 weeks with no problems and we were both ok, I had a complication during c-section non related to GD but with regards to GD we were both recovered and fine and my daughter only weighed 7lb x

I don't have GD this time but I am having baby at 39 weeks again due to last years complicated c-section I am having a planned c-section on 19th x to avoid me going into labour..

I hope you are ok x hang in there, sending you a hug xx

GD can cause baby to get bigger than he should. A baby that is too big has an increased risk for stillbirth. This is ultimately my biggest fear. I have been stressing out for the last 9 months. He's doing amazing but I just worry so much.

I hope everything goes well for you! I was controlling my after meal sugars until a few weeks ago with diet alone. They have gone all wonky on me now and I am still eating the same stuff. I needed bedtime insulin from about 14-16 weeks along. They diagnosed me early. I had GD with my first son as well and it went away and we were both fine but he was 9lbs 2 oz. On Thursday at my growth scan they told me Liam already weighs 7lbs 1 oz :haha: Though they said he is on track!

Hi ladies :) I am so glad to have found this thread. Weebun preior to this i read a post from you in 2011 regarding GD so have PM'd you.

I found out i have GD at only 11wks (which makes me wonder did i have diabetes but not know!). I am now 18wks and have been controlling with diet. I am generally a healthy eater and workout 5 or 6 days a wk, however i alredy have nearly 2stone on and up from UK8 to 14 and 2 bra sizes. The Dr has told me that i am prolonging going on Insulin (as i didn't wnat too) however my readings this wk are gradually getting worse, seems i can't control with diet alone. I was told previoulsy they wld try to induce me at 39wks but 37-38 if any other complications, so can you please both advise what is happening/happened with your birthing expereiences? Thank you :) xx

I had GD diagnosed at 13 wks with my DD and was induced at 39 weeks. I controlled and managed my GD well with insulin (tried with just diet, but it wasnt working).

My induction failed, unfortunately, after they tried all the different induction drugs. They were concerned for the baby and me since I had been under induction for 2 1/2 days at that point, so offered me a Section, which I decided to take.

My Section went very well, and because my GD was so well controlled, my DDs size was a beautifully normal 7 lbs, 14 oz. I even remember hearing the doctor say as they were taking her out "Oh, she is not very big at all!" :flower:

I will probably be having another section with this baby at 39 weeks as well. I don't have GD, but I do have other risk factors (unrelated to pregnancy).

Wishing all of you ladies well with your pregnancies!!

Thank u much for
Sharing ur experience. Helps me in realising its not all bad :) xx
