Hey everyone, just wondering if I can get some perspective from others about a bit of a dilemma I've been having at work. Sorry this is so long!!
I returned from maternity leave into a relief (casual) position. That essentially means we provide availability, but we are not guaranteed to receive exactly what we want each month. I initially provided 3 days availability and worked about 6-8 shifts every month since October; however, I had to cut it down to 2 days availability this month and 4-5 shifts per month, b/c my position is overnight, and 6-8 were too draining and difficult to bounce back for me. They were also difficult for my OH, as he didn't have much of a break on weekends after a stressful, busy work week.
I receive my schedule to find out that I only have 2 shifts, and two on-call shifts (which pay a fraction of the money a regularly scheduled shift pays if not called in). My agency has a 'minimum requirement' of 3 shifts and 1 on-call per month, which I obviously did not receive. We have 2 new hires. I've already cut back my shifts myself, and now even my own cut back has been cut in half. Also, a few people were working FAR LESS in the previous months are now scheduled 3 or 4 times that; and at least 1-2 people are working the same amount of shifts they were previously. Quite frankly, I feel a bit shafted.
I am the longest standing employee in this position at this time. Everyone else has a variance of 2-3 shifts maximum, and here I am, not even receiving the minimum requirement. No issues have been brought up in terms of my ability to do the job; I'm never late, etc., etc. I don't really think this is fair.
I want to bring this up with my scheduling coordinator and/or our direct boss. I'm literally considering providing my availability of Monday-Friday and knocking off weekends all together to ensure I receive 1 shift per week. What might you say about all of this, and to whom? Both, or just one of them, etc., and why? I want to bring it up assertively but also professionally. Any feedback is much appreciated.
