Hi

Well I have months and months to go with this pregnancy but just had my favourite name hope dashed by my OH. Normally I can twist him round my finger, and as long as it is scottish then he is happy. But apparently not.

Okay I have already (to give you an idea)

Ballagh Joan
Lachlann James
Eilidh Anne

I loved Harris.
But apparently not. He screwed his nose up and said really?:dohh:

Also love Mysie - I might get my way on that one.

OH suggested Atholl (which I like) and Torquill (sp?) which may grow on me.
And for a girl Ishbiel (sorry I think that is spelt totally wrong - woudl need to investigate that spelling).

I like slightly unsual names, and don't mind unusal spellings (like to confuse my NZ family)

Anyone got any ideas.

Middle names would be either Andrew or Katherine (family names).

All the kids have family middle names which aren't always picked for the ease of flow.

Not all Scottish but off the top of my head:

Erin
Rowan
Mhairi (mar-ree)
Catriona (although not with Katherine :D)
Davina
Skye
Carron
Heather

Lewis
Nevis
Hamish
Callum
Angus

Waht about:

Callum
Euan
Craig
Cameron

Harrison
Glen

or

Iona
Skye
Eilidh
Murren

xx

I'm Scottish and have never heard Mysie.

Hi

Some fantastic ideas, so many thanks.

Can't use (close relations and friends)
Isla
Eilidh (well I have already :haha:)
Lewis
Rhuaridh (I love this but Kiwis can never say it right - my OH gives in with me trying to prounounce it right - and I am pretty good with my scottish prounounciation now)
Mhairi
Skye (OH doesn't like this either)
Aaron
Finlay
Rhona
Innis
Rowan

Re Mysie - My OH great aunt was called this - not sure if it was the gaelic way of spelling Maisie but I do like it.

Just thought of one -
Aiofe - although my friend back home (in scotland) told me if I ever name a daughter that she would think of it as Aiofe the elephant. I kindof see her point:dohh:

Great question I am desperate to persuade my OH to go for a good Scottish name although we do need to get pregnant first! By the way I believe Aoife is Irish but beautiful. My Aunt was a Maisie and I was considering it too, I quite like your spelling of it
Here some of my ideas...

Girls: Rhona, Mary, Isobel, Shona, Fiona, Catrina/Catriona, Mairi, Mhairi (pronounced Vari)
Boys: Gregor, Ross, Scott, Ian or Iain, Hunter, Glen

Apparently he doens't like names that are places (so to speak).
Yet in saying that he loves Isla. Go figure

His Dad has married for again and a lot of the names that we like (like Gregar; Fraser; Mairi; Rhona; Heather (I don't like but he does) and Isla are now in our extended family.
And I would like the kids to have names that are theirs - so to speak.

We know a couple of Aoife's up on the Isle of Skye; and also a girl called Alice - but I can't remember the gaelic way of spelling that. It was lovely.

A friend back in Scotland just suggested Floraidh (Florrie). I am fairly certain that I have remembered the correct spelling for that. But I think that I like the spelling of more than the actual name - :haha:

It was so easy with my last children.

I am sure that we will get there.

I like Lachlann and Ishbel. My friend's son is called struan which I LOVE!! What about Rhuiraidh, Cameron, Chae (short for Charles), Lewis, Blair, Cailaen, Ross, Alisdair, Adair, Brodie, Grant, Iain, Lennox, Logan, Ramsay, Scott, Craig , Callum or Stewart.

For a girl: Mirren, Sadie, Skye, Flora, Aileen, Bonnie, Ailsa, Effie, Kirsty, Alba or Kayleigh?

Harris is my favourite name! Hamish is top for my OH.

My OH's cousin called his little girl Cora which is quite different? I also like Angus and Archie for boys names. Seamus is the Irish version of Hamish just for another option...

I haven't been on line for a while, far too busy sleeping and dealing with the other kids. But have a few quiet moments to myself.
Hurrah.

Many thanks to everyone for their suggestions. They have been really helpful.

We have been tossing a few ideas around (well normally I throw them at him and he vetos - but hay).
Maisie seems to be out (guttered) as he has now named my 3yr olds mouse that. And told me that we couldn't possibly have a child named after a cartoon character or toy.

I really like Struan and Rhuiraidh (but for this it is a prounounciation thing for my family - OH is scottish and we will be moving back there as soon as this baby is born). But the effort that it has taken us to get our sons name prounounced correctly from my NZ family I am not sure that I can go through it again.

Oh adn I like Rannoch.

For girls the only things that we both like at the moment is Sorcha or Saiorse

If anyone else has any ideas I would love to hear them. Or a good website would be great and I can trawl through it.:flower:

I like Cameron for a boy and Florrie for a girl.

Eilidh Anne

Ballach is the right spelling, and it's gaelic for 'boy'.. Boy Joan?
Ishbeal is how the name is usually spelt.
And for Calum, the scottish version of the name only has one l.
Ruaraidh is the proper spelling of that name too.

I'm Scottish and speak Gaelic, so my source is myself :P

im not that clued up on scottish names im affraid but hope you find the perfect names soon. xx

if i have a boy hes going to be Lachlan i love that name
