When my daughter is tired and on the brink of falling to sleep she is horrible at nursing! She starts throwing her arms and legs everywhere, bobbing on and off my boob, and screaming. She only does this once she starts dozing off so I don't think the issue is me. I've tried pulling her off and burping her to see if that's the problem (she does burp but when I return her to my boob its the same thing again) I've tried pulling her off and rocking her to sleep (she just lays there throwing her arms and legs around trying to suck my arm). Once her eyes finally droop she will settle and let herself calmly nurse to sleep but this takes about 10 min. Is she fighting sleep because she's hungry and over tired? Does anyone else baby do this? Its mostly during her day/evening feeds and never happens when she wakes first thing in the morning she usually just eats really quickly and goes right back to sleep until sometime around noon. I'm kind of hoping its just a phase....I can deal with it but I worry about her....why is she having such a hard time calmly nursing to sleep.?

Wss^^ I really didn't want to use a dummy but when my daughter started doing this I thought maybe it was the comfort she wanted and was getting upset when she got milk, I now feed her then give her a dummy to settle with an its solved it. She only did it at bedtime so only has dummy at bedtime happy baby happy mummy :) good luck x

My daughter does this too, and do try a dummy like they've said but unfortunately my LO didn't take a dummy. I think she'd do it because she was tired and full. So I started making sure she was fed, and if she come off frequently more than 3-4 times I put her down which would make her scream like hell. I'd then just rub her belly calmly and sing a song or talk calmly like you we're reading a story or something, and she would usually calm down. If she doesn't stop after 4-5 mins I'd pick her back up and she'd settle nicely. I've only had to do it once again because she wouldnt' settle. Sometimes she'll go to sleep when I put her down and sing though. She will rarely take a dummy but I have to shove it in and hold it, and sometimes she'll take it. but I personally don't like to force it on her. GL xx

I've tried the dummy she'll take it but then she won't go to sleep she'll suck on it for like 20 min then want nothing more to do with it and still be wide awake sucking her lips..

My 6 week old does this as well, it's very frustrating! I have no idea why she does it but it's normally in the evening and just on my left boob.

Atleast I'm not alone! Hopefully a phase she never used to be this difficult and she's coming out of a growth spurt so I'm thinking this might be the cause.
