I was just wondering for those of you who have had a baby before what dilation feels like? I have been feeling really achy down there and had some pains in that general area, my doc will just tell me that its from the extra blood flow. But for now and future reference I would like to know:) Im sure its hard to explain, but if you can, would you?? Thanks!!

Hi Seattlemama,

I am on my third pregnancy and I can't recall a certain feeling when I was dialating with my first 2 pregnancies. I was definitely achy but can't say for sure that it was because I was dialating.

Sorry I'm not much help, hopefully the pains will go away soon!

Thanks. I wasnt sure if it felt like something particular or not so I figured I would ask. The achiness and pains always make me worry that Im dilating early for some reason. I have been having them on and off since I was 19 weeks but the last few days they have been more regular. My doc says not to worry about it, but Im a worrier so cant help it! I get a lot of braxton hicks too, so that adds to my worry!

I have that achy sort of feeling now and again aswell, I was also worried that I could be dilating early or something but midwife told me that it was normal when I asked her last week :) so everything is fine :D Can't remember having it last time though

i can't remember the actual dialating until the end of labour when there was the pressure, i hit the gas and air quite early and had some kind of Gel to help start me off which felt burny so i didn't really notice it. I had No dialation what so ever before i went into get induced but i remember sometimes having to sit down as it ached so much down there.

Not sure if that helped... more for reasurance......

I wasn't able to distinguish what hurt where and how...I just knew that I was in bloody agony!

-You do go through different stages and sensations, but none that I'd have been able to have pin marked as dilation. To be honest theres that nuch pressure down there on your bowels and bladder as the baby works its way down, I just felt permanently like I needed the toilet....which is why I spent the majority of both labours sat on the loo!

I keep getting pinching pains where I think my cervix is. I think it's pretty normal to feel dodgey down there lol!

I feel a bit funny down there as well sometimes, as if something is opening... like quite heavy? I just assumed it must be junior lying on a rpessure point or something. Im sure everythings fine if your middwife has checked you out, but it is so easy to worry!

xxx

I echo what zblacasse & RachieH said I am afraid, I really couldn't tell you! x

Thanks everyone! I know that its normal to just feel strange and uncomfortable all around, I think Im just paranoid!
