Second Trimester? When does it start?

Hi Girls,
I think I am between trimesters right now. My doctor congratulated me
On Friday for being out on the first Tri but I am only 12weeks. Most websites say 14 weeks is thr end of the second Tri, yet most Irish people consider that once you've reached 12weeks your on to the second?

Help?

It can get very confusing! Going by my own way of counting I'm 5.5 months but when I check books/internet it says I'm just 6months! Crazy!!!

Well, I've found this:

At 13 weeks, my ultrasound still read 1st trimester, but when I returned at 14w6d it read 2-3rd tri. I think in some countries they consider this, and in others that.

I migrated here around 14 weeks but didn't have a decent internet access before that anyway.
