Hey ladies!

Unfortunately, my OB has done everything she can do to get me pregnant. She's now released me to a Fertility Specialist, which I will go see next Thursday. I'm pretty nervous, but excited at the same time. Just ready to keep moving forward. What can I expect from this first visit? Also, I've heard that if you're overweight or obese, an FS won't do anything for you until you lose weight, is this true? According to my BMI, I'm "overweight", so I'm curious if he'll refuse to move forward with treatments until I drop some weight? Any insights? Thanks!

Also, should my hubby be present for the consult?

I spoke to my FS's office today and they said that it wasn't absolutely necessary that my hubby be present for the consult, but he can come if he can. Have y'all found that it's better for hubbies to be there or does it really not matter?

I'd really like some feedback on the weight issue, too, if any of you ladies can help me out. :) Any other advice and insights are greatly appreciated!

Hey!!

Well really all depends on your FS and his practice. My FS was really hard on my weight, my BMI is 29 but he does treat women who have BMI's over 45. He's happy to go ahead and treat me regardless of my weight if I keep working on trying to get my BMI around 24.5.

Now for the appointment...

I seriously recommend you get yourself a note book and start writing points that you want to talk about with your FS and questions you have for him because it's going to be a long time between appointments.
He might want to rerun every test you've ever had like CD 3, 21 bloods, scans, HSG, and S/A for DH. I found it better to have my DH with me the first time, mostly for my support.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Also I'm in a Australia and there isn't any weight restrictions here!

Hey Moochacha!

Thanks for the info on the weight thing, I've been kinda worried about it. My BMI is also 29 and I've heard a few rumors about my FS and him being pretty hard on women about their weight. I was just hoping he wouldn't refuse to start treating me until I lose weight. I guess we'll see!

I'll definitely get a list of questions together to ask, I know how nerves can make you forget! My OB didn't really do any kind of testing on me, so I'm sure my FS will run a whole battery of tests, lol. What, exactly, do you mean about there being a long time between appts, do FS's like to go a while in between seeing you?

Thanks for all the great advice!

With a BMI around 29 I think he will be ok, but be prepared he might ask you to lose some more weight while TTC, but it's on the lower end of being slightly overweight.

I meant a long wait between appointments, I see my FS every 4 weeks and if I need any monitoring and scans I do it with his nurse (RN). So for me 4 weeks is a long wait between appointments.

OH, I gotcha, I misunderstood at first, haha.

Yeah, I'm already preparing for him to tell me to lose weight, which is fine because I know I need to. Anything to help me get preggers. :)

I'll be sure to post an update after my appt next Thursday!
