Semen Analysis Question....

My DH is getting a semen analysis done Monday morning. In the information we received it said to abstain from ejaculation 48 hours before testing but no more than 5 days. Well.... DH is not feeling well today and we've passsed the 48 hour period. Is it better to just not do it?? We did have sex 7 days ago (so it will be 9 days since sex on Monday). I'm just frustrated right now! If anyone has any info or suggestions I would greatly appreciate it!

So your OH hasn't ejaculated for 9 days?
Umm. . . did you have to wait long to get the appointment?
If you did I would do it anyway and explain after just to get some kinda of result.

However if it was easy to get the appointment just call them and rearrange.

EDIT: Thinking about it illness can affect the results so maybe best to wait for another?
With having not ejaculated for a while AND illness he may come back with bad results that aren't really representative at all.

TexasWife2006 - One time my DH wasnt well around the time he had to do his and we rang and re-arranged, they gave us an appointment for the week later and they were fine with us.

I would definately reschedule your DH SA. My DH has had 2 SA done in the past two months and both came back low because the 1st one we waited more that 3 days before he took the test, then the 2nd one we only waited 1 1/2 days before his test and that came back even lower. Our doctor told us to only wait 3 days before he gets his SA because the # of days does matter, waiting too long kills off the. Also him not feeling well could affect the results as well. I know what you mean about being frustrated, my DH & I are going through all of the tests to figured how we can have #2 for 14 months now. Best of luck to you!

i definately agree with all the ladies advice....my dh sperm count was 15million when he first had it done...then he went to have a second analysis done (and was dying with the flu) and his SA came back at 5million...i had a heart attack!
MyFS said not to worry seeing he had the flu and that definately alters the results....Reschedule babe! it'll definatley save you the stress....good luck Xo

If you can't reschedule, it's better for him to clear the pipes now, rather than not. If you think about it when you are ttc, often we BD on consecutive days, so a freshish batch is what you get at each attempt. For IVF they say only 24 hours abstinance is needed, so get him on the job now!!!

Sperm takes 90 days to develop and mature, so his illness now may or may not affect this result, but you should let the doctor interpretting the results know.
