Hi ladies i'm from the TTC section but i wasnt to know if you could help me .I went and had my FS appointment today and i new i could have a Bicornuate Uterus but he isnt sure if i have that or a septate uterus.

Has anyone had this and got pregnant and had a health baby??

thanks becci xx

i have a bicornuate uterus as does my sister (coincidence apparently) and neither of us struggled to conceive. My sisters is much worse than mine and they only found it when she had my neice at 31 weeks (3lb 4oz) shes was told at the time she'd never carry full term becuase her uterus is pretty much spilt in two and the baby stays in one side til theres no more room. My neice is now 10 but was in special care for probably 5-6 weeks ish and is very healthy now.

Mine is heart shaped and much less of a problem, Im not under any extra care for it (it was picked up at early 7 week scan) there is a small chance the babys head could wedge in one of the two 'horns' at the top which may make it harder for her to turn but so far Ive had a problem free pregnancy and shes currently head down...

hope this has helped - i also googled it when i found out (not sure if i should have) but i found some useful info. sorry never heard of a septate uterus.

I have a bicornuate uterus as well. My mom had the same but hers was far more severe. She delivered three healthy babies to full term. My two siblings were carried in one horn and I was carried in the other horn.

I am now 35 weeks along in my first pregnancy. I have been put on bed rest twice. The first time was because of low amniotic fluid levels at 32 weeks. I built my fluids back up and they are fine now. I don't know if that has anything to do with the uterine shape or not. The second bed rest which I am on now is because I'm a little effaced and the doc wants me to stay pregnant as long as possible.

I have had what I call Braxton Hicks contractions since at least 28 weeks. The doctor doesn't seem to categorized them as BH. Instead he says it is my uterus stretching to accommodate the baby. He says it is nerves being pulled and muscles being stretched that are causing the pains. I am attributing all of this to having a BU simply because it is a half of a uterus that it stretching to make as much fit as possible.

I did have some light spotting at week 6 or 7.

I have never had a miscarriage to my knowledge, so that doesn't have to be a concern for every lady that is diagnosed with BU.

A bicornuate uterus is not something I would ever ask to have, but it is working for me so far.

I have bicornuate uterus, everything seems fine with baby so far, he has even turned head down x

Hey Becci, I'm sorry your still trying and it looks like you might have some complications. I don't know an awful lot on this particular subject, only the basics. But I have a friend who I have messaged on here who is currently in the second tri with similar problems. :dust: and all the best honey. I hope you get your BFP very soon, and enjoy a healthy and happy pregnancy x

Hi hope ur ok? I was told about this post by tinkerbell, as she's already said I'm in my 2nd tri and almost 21 weeks. I found out I had a bicornuate uterus when I was 16 after having some ovarian tumours removed, I also ended up having to have an ovary and tube removed. I was always told to try for kids straight away but having just turned 16 I was in no position and always thought it a little irresponsible to be told go get pregnant kid. Anyway just over a year ago I went for one of my check ups to be told that my chance was over I'd never had kids. I'd been prepared for miscarriages and difficult pregnancies after being told about my bicoruate uterus but not that at 21 I'd never even have a chance. A few months after I was told me and my oh stopped using protection, it seemed pointless when various drs had said that I wouldn't be able to concieve, turns out they were all wrong coz about 5/6 months of unprotected sex I missed a period. My oh suggested I do a test and tbh I kind of had a go at him n thought it was insensitive until it played on my mind and done one to get a bfp.

It's not been an easy pregnancy but it's also not been as hard as I was made to believe, the baby's growing in one of the horns so doesn't have much room. It's been painful and there's been a few times I've bled but thankfully everythings ok. It is stressful and I do spend all my time worrying, I've even decided at 24 weeks I'm hospital bag shopping just in case but this baby has truly given me a lot of positivity if I'm having a bad day all it takes is a little kick to help me on my way back to normal. It's not easy knowing and that puts a lot more pressure on you tbh sometimes I wish I didn't know. Anyway I'm rambling now lol.

I hope everything works out for you, and if you ever need a chat or any advice I'm just a message away. Would I would say though is if you do get your bfp don't buy a heart monitor, i couldn't find mine for a week and the dr couldn't for ages with the surgery one, apparently they aren't designed for women with uterine abnormalities and make us worry.
Good luck :) xx

I have a friend with a severe Bicornuate Uterus. She had both her babies 3 months preemie. They are completely healthy though and had no problems. They expected it the second time and prepared her for it but the first was a surprise.

I have a bicornuate which seemed to cause a lot of spotting issues. On top of that, the septum from the uterus was hanging at an odd angle, which kept doctor keeping close watch. My placenta attached to that septum, which decreased the flow from umbilical cord. As a result, Charley was small; at 38 weeks, she was delivered by section due to being breech and weighed only 5 pounds 12 ounces. She had no room to turn.

I did have a miscarriage last year, but doubt bicornuate had anything to do with it.

Hi,

I have a bicornauate uterus and am currently pregnant with my third daughter. My first two were both breech as they didn't have space to turn around so were born via c-section. They both reached full term and were unaffected by the shape of my womb. My pregnancies were very uncomfortable due to them being stuck in one horn and having their heads bash me in the ribs!! This pregnancy, the baby has turned early and is head down at the moment. The only extra care I am getting is a couple of extra growth scans to check baby has room to grow. My previous 2 babues weight 6lb15oz and 7lb14oz so I'm not to worried. Try not to worry. There are lots of scarey stories on the internet but my consultant said he has delivered loads of healthy babies to women with an unusual shaped uterus, even ones with complete seperation and there is no reason you can't have a perfectly healthy baby x

hi hun. i have a bicornuate uterus too.
i am 32 weeks with baby number three
baby number one was originally a twin pregnancy but we lost one baby and were prem.
baby number two was a single pregnancy born at just over 36 weeks very healthy
this time round apart from leaking waters which i did with first everything is going great. baby in perfect health and hanging on in their

i have had no problems concieving at all dispite my irregular cycles. i have literally fell pregnant as soon as the idea is in my head. i feel so lucky to be blessed with my babies. they are just perfect

good luck ttc hun and i hope they get to the bottom of it all. my bicornuate uterus was only detected when i was 6 weeks pregnant with number one. knew nothing of it before this xx

I am currently pregnant for the third time and I've had two miscarriages. I started bleeding heavily two days ago and went to the hospital and they said I've just had a threatened miscarriage, but their is still a heartbeat so their is still hope. This is what happened with my second miscarriage too, they said their was hope. I'm almost seven week. My first was 6 weeks and my second was 8 weeks. This must be because of my bicornuate uterus. I don't know if it's worth this heartache...I can't keep losing my babies.

Hi Becci

I was diagnosed with a septate uterus. I have a septum that divides my uterus in two

Everyone told me that this put me at high risk for miscarriage AND high risk for preterm labor! It really scared me. I was told that the baby could run out of room really easily and I would be very lucky to make it past 23 weeks, basically be prepared for heartbreak and tears.

After being closely monitored I've got to full term with no problems no threats of preterm labour no miscarriage and im just so amazed my pregnancy has gone so well considering the bleak outlook i was first given by the hospital.

Basically If you have a bicarbonate uterus, or a septum, or anything unusual, try to stay positive and do not read too much online as its 99% doom and gloom.

Good luck Becci :hugs:

Forgot to add that it took me over two years to conceive this baby which my specialist told me was due to having a septate uterus. i just hope if i want another baby after this one it doesnt take so long to conceive and the pregnancy runs as smooth as this one has gone.

I was told I had a unicornuate uterus after baby #1. After baby #2 I was told I have a bicornuate uterus but one of the horns is underdeveloped/undeveloped.

Anyways.

Pregnancy #1: miscarried a twin at 9wks. waters broke and had an emergency C-section at 34 wks (baby was breech). My son spent 3wks in the hospital and is now a healthy and energetic 6-year-old

Pregnancy #2: 39wk schedule C-section. Repeat c-section needed since my original C-section was done vertically on my uterus due to the unicornuate/bicornuate condition. Baby girl was 6lbs 10oz and is now a healthy (almost) 2 year old.

Pregnancy #3: I'm currently at 32 1/2wks. No issues thus far.

Also, I had 0 difficulty conceiving. My first pregnancy was a major oops and the other two happened the same month we decided to start "throwing caution to the wind".

In all my pregnancies baby is very much on one side of my body (my right side). It is painful to lay on that side for any period of time. When I lay on my back you can clearly see that my belly is very much lopsided.

Also, I'm missing my kidney on the same side where the horn was un/underdeveloped.

Though I'm sure it's coincidence my son was born with some moderate/extreme malformation of his external genitalia (it has since been corrected in 2 surgeries). We're just "lucky" I guess.

Iv got a bicornucate uterus and that combined with ovarian tumors for the last 7 year's lead drs to say I'd never conceive and that if I did I'd definitely lose it. Drs dont really know that much turns out, I now have a beautiful healthy 10 month old who was born at nearly 38 weeks and that was only as I was induced due to pre e. Good luck x
