Hi ladies,

I've been hauled up in bed for the past 3 days with one heck of a virus. Fever, headache, horrible chesty cough. I have only just got my voice back.

I went to my doctor yesterday and she said LO would be OK & let me listen to the heartbeat which really was good of her. She prescribed some antibiotics but I don't want to take them. I'm worried about the effect on LO. I've taken a couple of paracetamol & am drinking honey & steaming to try to release the yuck on my chest. I'm also still taking my multivitamins. I am starting to feel better but a long way off being back to 100%.

I know I am doing the best I can to get better but I can't help feeling incredibly frustrated with myself. I feel like I'm letting LO down & not managing to take care of him/her well enough.

Does that sound bonkers? Can anyone relate?

You have a virus, you didn't so anything wrong. :hugs:
Are you sure it is a virus? I ask because usually antibiotics wont work for that, a virus just plays out and then leaves your body, it it like a waiting game.

For me NO I would not take the antibiotics I would just fight it out, but that is me. You do what you feel best.. It will be ok and this will pass from your body soon.. XO :hugs::hugs::hugs:

Heya AndyP,

I did think it was a bit strange to be offered antibiotics at the time because I didn't think they worked on viruses. I've been for a 2nd opinion and that doc confirmed it is a virus and suggested I do as you say and just ride it out. Antibiotics are useless and may do more harm than good.

I'm feeling so much better today. No where near 100% but I can breathe easier and have my voice back.

Thankfully LO has been kicking about a lit more today so hopefully that's a good sign too.

Thanks for your reassuring post. :)

Sounds like I have had the same thing as you - it was doing the rounds at work before the Easter Holidays. I was in bed from Easter Sunday til the Wednesday. Still coughing a bit now, but energy levels on the rise over a week later. The thing that bothered me most was an inability to eat. I had no trouble with this until I got ill, now I eat less and everything leaves a bitter after taste.

Hope you are feeling better soon

Hey Izzie74, sorry to hear you were suffering as well. It's a nasty bug isn't it!?

I still have the lingering cough but I'm feeling so much better.

I didn't experience the food thing you mention. I hope that's shifted for you. It mustn't be very nice to have that bitter after taste.

I've heard there's warmer weather due from this weekend so hopefully spring is finally here and we are done with all the bugs!
