Hubby i tried to dtd last week at 4 weeks post partum it wasnt agony but quite tender so we left it for a week. yesterday we tried again, still tender but less than last week n it felt pretty darn good lol however attempted it again this morn (kinda jst to c how it felt!) n it was too sore to do anything at all...im hoping this is normal as its still healing n that a)i havent done any damage n b)in time ill b able to dtd more than once a week! Lol (wishful thinking i know! Only reason we did it this week was cz my mum had little one to give us some sleep n a break from our colicky bubba!)

what are other peoples experiences?

we waited a while longer getting on for 2 months and had no problems, maybe you just haven't healed properly yet?

I'm interested in replies to this...I had my LO 17days ago and had an episiotomy and was definitely going to wait for my 6wk gp check before attempting sex.

I waited until week 12, it isn't even recommended to have sex until 6 weeks after delivery. I will be honest here, I had a 3rd degree episiotomy cut, my daughter is almost 8 months now and it STILL hurts to have sex

My episiotomy top skin sutures came out 24 hours after they were put in so it took weeeeeeks to heal fully (about 10 before there wasn't a gaping wound and 14 before it looked/felt normal) We tried at 5 weeks, it hurt so we tried again at 10 weeks. Still hurt but we carried on anyway!
Just give it time hun x x

Just while we are on episiotomy talk (I dont want to start a new thread)

How likely is it I will tear along my episiotomy cut with my next baby? It was an unnecessary cut as my LO was just 6lb 11oz. I am frightened of having to go through so many weeks of healing pain again.

Hiya... I'm nervous about dtd too it's been 10 weeks and I still havnt and oh keeps trying his luck lol. This is my second baby and I had an episiotomy with my first and this time I had a second degree tear on my scar tissue xxx

I had sex 6 weeks after, nearly 7. I had my check up gp said it had healed and it split so I've got to have another op on it. I'd give it a few weeks coz when it rips it's agony.

I still have probs when oh goes in. I think i was stitched up.too tight tho. It hurts when he goes in at first everytime but then its gone and feels fine. Took us a couple of months of gentle persuasion to stop it from really hurting. My fear is am i too tight for baby no2? I.knoe i.needed tht cut but weather i can do everything properly the second time round coz i havr been stitched up pretty tight iykwim?

Almost identical healing for me - I had a haematoma that burst my stitches 1 week pp, am now 13 weeks pp and the wound has only just recently healed although still pretty sore sometimes. Haven't been brave enough to dtd yet

I was wondering about this too Jess. I am hoping 3 years down the road what is now will be different. It makes me nervous just thinking about it. 8 months out and I am still quite tender, although everyone says 12 to 18 months is considered fully recovered from birth and pregnancy, hope that includes vaginal healing time as well...

I was still sore until around 12 weeks. We managed past 8 weeks but it was pretty tender for me, I just didnt put a stop to it once we started =)

Mine has still not healed properly over 4 months on. It is still sore and occasionally there is a bit of blood. I went to the gp who said it is just healing slowly. No way I am ready to have sex though! Luckily my husband understands and doesn't want to DTD if it might hurt me. He must be getting frustrated by now though!!

After my episiotomy we DTD at 5 weeks, it was a bit uncomfortable to start with but was fine after that.

5th months after episiotomy and sex is STILL off the cards. We tried a handful of times and it was extremely painful :( went to see the doc and she said I might have to get my stitches redone!
But we did try a bit of foreplay and oral and it doesn't hurt at all!
I remember getting examined at 3 months PP and I had no pain at all

Dont worry, you will heal :) Its horrible though, the niggling pain really does make you feel down doesnt it. The worst for me was when the sides of the cut would start fusing together and then I would move and it would re-tear. OUCH! This went on for a while.
I would say (like a few other posters) I am tighter now than I was before! The first time I had sex I was so tight it took a long time before erm... husband could actually go in. I am still very tight now and like a previous poster said, I am worried about re-tearing.

IF I need a cut or tear....I am going to ask for the nurse to suture me up PROPERLY with a double layer of stitches!!!

Hey! :hugs: havent seen you about in a while :)

I think the 12-18 months is MAINLY the vaginal area! Seriously considering a section next time.

I DTD last week & my little man is nearly 9 weeks...it was a bit uncomfortable but it wasnt sore or anything after...i think every 1 is different to be honest xxx

I started DTD after a few weeks but I hate to say this, took about 14 months to feel normal down there again (to feel identical pre-baby). Healing takes a lot longer than you can imagine, although all people are different.
