So everyone knows, Im 32 weeks on Thursday.

So, last Tuesday I went in to my OB for a normal visit and he had told me he was a little worried about my weight gain. Keep in mind, I didnt even start seeing him until I was 16 weeks because of affordability issues. My weight (pre-pregnancy) has never gone above 103lbs or below 98lbs. Im about 5'5". Ive always been a thin girl and even with being pregnant with my son 4 years ago, I only gained 25lbs. My son was born 5lbs, 11oz. Ive never suffered from any eating disorder other than being able to eat whatever I want, whenever I want.
Anyways, my OB scheduled a ultrasound for that upcoming Thursday and everything seemed decent. She told me my little ballerina's head and waist measured up fine and that she was about 2 1/2lbs. Her legs and arms were shorter than theyd like but my OB said im allowed to eat whatever i want, no restrictions, to try and put on weight. Problem is, I already do! At that point, I started thinking to myself that maybe I was going to have a "small person." Then, they did a doppler scan and noticed that my umbilical vein was pulsating, which apparently isnt good and only the arteries are supposed to do that. Now, starting tomorrow at 11:30am, I have to go in for weekly BPP testing. I made the mistake of "researching" IUGR, SGA, and umbilical pulsation, which in turn made me completely psychotic on all the things that could be wrong! Just to name a few, cerebral palsy, fetal and chromosomal abnormalities, stillborn, etc are things that can occur. Has anyone been diagnosed with these in-utero fetal complications? If so, what was the WORST outcome theyve seen? Im honestly scared to death that I have done something wrong and now my mini muffin is paying for it. Any information would help. My mind needs a break and needs to know more about this, all at the same time! THANK YOU!

Connor had IUGR and honestly apart from being small when he was born and hes been slow gaining weight hes perfectly fine. He was 4lb 8oz at birth and now at a year is 16lb, from finding out connor had iugr at 28 weeks i had to have scans, consultant appointments and ctg monitoring every 2 days to keep an eye on baby. I also had steriods at 30 weeks incase they had to deliver early if my placenta totally gave up. I know its worrying but you have done nothing wrong and like i said Connor is totally fine apart from being small so im sure your baby will be:hugs:

I have a Connor too that was iugr. He had severe iugr and was 2lb 11 1/2 oz at 34+6 but had no problems at all at birth. He cried straight away and didn't need any assistance with breathing. He spent 4 weeks in special care but only to grow. He breast fed from day 3. He is perfectly normal just small. I was monitored closely from 22 weeks.

my dd had iugr, i was induced at 38 weeks with her after 6 weeks of constant growth scans and ctg's. she was born weighing 5lbs 3oz and perfectly healthy. since the start she has been a hungry little hippo and now at 2 yrs 8 months is on the 50th centile for her weight. iugr can be really frightening when you find out your baby has it, but i have never known anyone to have severe affects from this. try not to stress, good things come in small packages!!

i forgot to mention in my first post connor needed abit of oxygen when born and he struggled to feed for the first 2 weeks and he ended up back in hospital because he had lost more weight than they allow them to but once his sucking reflex devolped he was fine, they said even though he was classed at full term his sucking reflex hadnt quite devolped.

eta: sga is just small for gestational age and tends to be if the mother/father are small people or thats what the consultant told me, thats what i was hoping connor was instead of iugr but mine was because my placenta wasnt working properly

A lady on another forum I am on had a full term iugr baby who weighed 3lb and he is now almost 10yrs old and absolutely fine

Poppy was IUGR born at 34 weeks and weighed 3lbs 13 while her twin brother weighed 4lbs 10. She's gaining weight great and has no medical problems she's just a bit smaller than her bro :) xxx

Eloise was IUGR born, she was born at 36wks+6 and weighed 4lb 10. She has had no medical problems and is gaining weight great.

A HUGEEEEE thank you to all the posts back with as much info as any could provide! Im so glad to hear theres more positive endings than negative ones. Ive done a lot of research. I did my first BPP appt on Thursday and it showed I had gained 2lbs. They didnt measure my little one, but they will this next week. I had been "researching" so hard about negative effects of IUGR that I had put myself into a position of no hope. My Dr. says everything looks great for now but wants to keep an eye on both of us, just in case. So, we will be continuing with weekly BPP's. Thank you again everyone!!!!

My son Andrew had IUGR - he was born at 29+1wks, and weighed just 1lb 6oz! He was the second smallest ever seen on the unit. He's got a few health issues, but these are all from his extreme prematurity and not his IUGR. He's now 10.5m actual age, and still only wearing size 0-3m clothes. He's putting on weight, pegging his own curve on the growth charts - not climbing up the percentiles, but maintaining the growth.

Hi im glad i found this thread..im going through this hell also

went for normal 20 wk scan and they were really worried about size of baby as it was 2 weeks behind but we new our dates were correct and couldnt be out by 2 weeks as that would mean i wasnt pregnant wen i waved the magic wand....
So had to go back every week for scans andthey were more worrying each time...one scan i went by myself as i thought everythn was ok only to be told i need to take into account my baby probably isnt going to make it and i may go for a scan only to find she had died inside me as my placenta isntworking properly so baby isnt getting the corect blood flow...
i was sooo shocked and i had to ring my hubby nd tell him over the phone it was just pure awfull..
so i go for scans everyday now doppler scans and babys liver scans to check blood flow the blood flow is absent then reveresed then goes ok then back to absent????
Im currently 28 weeks 3 days and my consultant said he never thought i would get to 25 weeks so surely thats a positive thing..some measurements on baby is 20 weeks others 22 23 24 nothin is measuring for my weeks that i am....
They also said if baby is born it will be via c-section and will defo be before im 32 weeks my baby is weighing around 1lb2 oz at the moment which is a grave cause for concern apparantly...
Its just hell everyday wondering if she still alive and then what the scan is going to pick up,,,,
i take my hospital bag with me everyday to be prepared to stay and have seciton..i also am not aloud anything to eat or drink everyday till after my scan incase i need section...
Ive never been through anything like this in my life its pure hell.... i have 2 other healthy happy kids a 5lb12 oz girl whos 7 now born 37 weeks and a son whos 2 6lb2 n half ounzes born 37 weeks also ..thats jsut when i go into labour.....
Would like to talk to anyone whos going through something similiar to maybe feel a bit better about it and also compare notes so to speak???
Im sick of reading all the awfull storys regarding iugr and severre iugr i dont think im yet to read a positive all of them seem to suffer horrendously with weight gain, reflux poor muscle tone i,e cant walk roll over etc etc....
Endless hospital appointments to see there milestones...ive read everything possible over these last few weeks to do with iugr from googline and ask jeeving and im tired now its wearing me down i need some positives in the hope that my baby is not going to die and will also maybe lead a relatively normal lief along with her brothers and sisters,,,
thanks very much for listening to me ramble on its all i seem to do these days :s
