I was wondering when your little ones were able to properly sort shapes (at least one consistently) into the shape sorter toy. Someone on my Facebook posted that their son could sort circles and squares by the time they were eight months old. I was amazed! Mine is eight and a half months, and only bangs the blocks against the top. I don't believe that he has grasped the concept yet. I'm not worried that my son can't do it yet, but I am curious about the approximate age that babies can start sorting shapes.

My LO is almost 13 months and can't do it. She tries to put the shapes in to the holes but has no understanding of which shape should go in which one! I would have thought 18 months - 2 years would be when they start to get spatial awareness like that, but I don't know for sure!

Mine is 19m and has just started putting circles in right place. Don't worry about it. Your LO will do this this other baby can't. They are all different. ;)

I was a bit baffled on this one at the time as fisher price said it was a toy for 8 months. My two put things in holes now at 13 months, but just push any shape in any hole, and if it fits it does. They obviously have no concept of size or shape, as they try to put really big things in a small hole!

My son started putting the circle one in at 11 months and just yesterday (a week shy of 12 months) started with the square one.

Mine could from pretty young, they all concentrate on different things, he was/is incredibly dexterous, he was doing most shapes at a year but was a very late talker!

I don't remember, but I would think it would be over a year. I remember she was confident on her feet and we were in our current house... We moved here when she was 11 months old.

My 8 month old dumps the shapes out and tries to eat them :D Your kiddo is fine. The other mom is probably exaggerating.

Thanks to everyone for your responses. I promise you, I'm not concerned even the slightest bit that he can't do it. I really was just genuinely curious.
