I'm a total back sleeper, and 2 days ago woke up in the middle of the night on my back, and when I turned to my side, My uterus area hurt. Not for long, but enough to make me look up in the morning- until when can I sleep on my back.
I kind of freaked out that I might have already done damage.
The whole day I was fine, but towards the evening I started getting sharp jab feelings on my sides, one side at a time. More around my hip bones, so on my sides, but facing more front.
I fell asleep on my side and tossed and turned all night because I was afraid the pains were from sleeping on my back too much.

So 2 things, are these pains round ligament pains? I thought I got some before but these feel sharper, and don't last long, just a few seconds. If not, what could they be?
And really, should I be this stressed out about not sleeping on my back? It said that "women who sleep on their backs or right sides have 6 times the chance of stillborn". Who writes that stuff of the net?! Don't they know freaked out pregnant women are reading that?

Some will say your body will tell you when you can't sleep on your back but my Doctor advised me early on not to chance it. Not only does it slow the blood pressure for you it can cut off oxygen for baby. Now, you need to be further along, but by 16 weeks or so you should start sleeping on your side.

I actually have a U body pillow and once pregnant I start sleeping on my side, I am a stomach sleeper! so by the time I NEED to be on my sides I am already used to it.

It does sound like Round Ligament pain....From being on your back their is a lot of pressure on your uterus. I would just try to start to sleep on your sides and see if the pain lessens b/c in pregnancy that will creep in somehow, somewhere! :haha:

Again many will say, "Oh I slept on my side just fine...." Coming from someone who has already lost a child so sensitive to loosing another I would not chance it.

Thanks, I actually did sleep with the blanket between my legs the other night and it was comfortable, but maybe I should invest in a long term pregnancy like pillow.
Oh wow, it's starting to hit me, I'm pregnant!!!

YES definitely need something between the legs, that is the only way I can sleep! lol If not my hips hurt....

This is the one I have, I have used it all 3 pregnancies and it is still going strong. It is a bed hog though! lol I am a pillow snob so I put the U by my feet so I can switch from side to side and use my pillows for my head!
