So I'm getting really pissed off because I have been getting these sharp stabbing pains in my head mostly on the back right side and only last for a couple seconds at a time but they come through out the day. I do not have a history of migraines these pains are not migraine pains they are very sharp and alarming and scary its in the same spot every time. Sometimes my eyes shake back and forth involuntarily random times even when I do not have any pain in my head...I went to the ER and they immediately diagnosed me with migraines but I refuse to believe that its like they wanted me in and out . my Dr is refuering men to a neurologist in April for further testing ....please leave your thoughtss on this thanks :)

Sounds like ice pick headaches to me. I think they're usually towards the front of the head or around the temple/eye but I think they can be at the back of the head too.

The ER may not be writing you off…

The term "migraine" doesn't have to be only a super-duper headache. I have had migraines since I was a little girl. When I was younger they were typical: light sensitivity, nausea, visual auras, blazing head pain, etc. But when I was in my 20s, they changed. I now have basilar migraines, of which the headache isn't so horrible, but I've had instances vertigo (sometimes for days at a time). Picture holding a baby and holding onto a door frame not to fall over bc you can't balance… Not. Fun. It feels like my brain gets itchy, and I have a general feeling of malaise and am kind of out of it. The first time it happened, I was at work and literally fell off my chair. I thought I was having a stroke.

Unfortunately, a lot of auras are associated with the general term "migraine." Loud ringing in your ear(s) for prolonged periods of time, temporary facial paralysis, the list goes on and on…

Definitely see a neurologist and get your MRI/MRA, but don't be surprised if he/she agrees with the ER docs.

Ps--My eyes shift back and forth too while I have migraines/vertigo. I didn't even know it happened until my mother witnessed me in full-swing and was horrified. She told me what I looked like, and my neurologist confirmed that it is all part of the lovely package!

Thanks...yeah well I'm hoping that is it and not nothing more serious going on...I just wish they would have did some testing to back up their diagnosis of migrains ...for someone like me to never get headaches and never had a history of them its just scary for me...but hope it all goes well :)

I suffer from severe migraines and I get this some days too. I believe they are ice pick headaches.
