So yeah an odd one. I really dislike it when you have to completely change name spelling when shortening it.
Eg - jaCob becomes jaKe

So can people tell me how they'd shorten isobelle. Im starting to go off it

Also not sure if isa or iso spelling

I know people that have shortened it to izzy, isa (eye-za) and belle.

If you don't want it shortening though just tell people. I would never let anyone shorten caitlyn to kate because I never liked it (now I do- funny how tastes change!)

No id deffo shorten it but i fell it would be izzy and not issy. Which changes the spelling.

Im sorry im a fruitloop lmao

Haha no I totally get what you mean!

My childhood friend isabelle went by iz izzy and biv. Of course you can spell your child's nickname however you want but her friends may end up giving her all sorts of other nicknames/spellings.

I'd shorten it to Izzy or Bells or Bella, which would change the spelling!
Just call her Isabelle and she'll choose her own way when she'd older anyway, I changed my name (to nickname and spelling) when I was nine and most people have no idea it's not my correct name!

I would probably shorten it to Belle, but she may decide she prefers Izzy or her friends may give her that nickname

You could go with Isy/Isi and pronounce it the same as Izzy?

I know what you mean! I don't like it when people shorten my son's name to Zack or Zak because it doesn't have a k in it! I spell it Zach

DD2's name is Isobel, DH calls her Issy, pronounced the same as Izzy; I prefer Belle though so hopefully Issy won't catch on :haha:

Sometimes the change in spelling is necessary to keep the right pronunciation. Jacob could be Jac but no one would pronounce that Jake.

I think Isabelle might have better chances than "Jac". Here, in French at least, people called Isabelle get nicknamed Isa (ee-ZA). I think Isa is a cute nickname but would probably get pronounced ee-ssa just by the spelling. Still, you could choose to prouncounce it ee-za and spell it Isa and it should catch on with friends and family even if it takes time with strangers and new people! Same for Isy (izzy) which I guess would be a more likely nickname for you to go for.

If my son was a girl, he would have been named Izabella and she would have been Iza or Bella for short.

I think sometimes we do have to change the spelling for the nickname to work.

That being said, sometimes other nicknames come out of no where. My daughter, Maisie, is usually called Moo, though of course we call her Maisie too.

I know an Isabel who goes by Abby because her sister couldn't ever say Isabel correctly. From her incorrect pronounciation as a child derrived "sabe" [sabby] and ultimately, she became an Abby. Most presume she's Abigail and are a little surprised when they hear she is in fact Isabel!

Yes my daughter macie and we call her 'moo' too or mouse. Lol I didn't really think of shortening the name Macie before we named her. But I've had to tell a few people off for calling her 'mace' lol pepper spray kid
