Shorter luteal phase with Puregon??

Hello ladies! I've looked on the forum (albeit a quick look) and couldn't find anything similar to my problem.

I've been using Puregon (FSH) for 4 cycles, trigger with Pregnyl and then IUI 36 hours later as that's when I should supposedly be ovulating. When I do this entire system, my luteal phase is only 12 days long. Meaning AF comes 2 weeks after my trigger shot rather than two weeks after I ovulated. HOWEVER, on a non-medicated cycle which happens very rarely, my luteal phase is a nice 14 days long... two weeks after ovulation.

So, have you absorbed all that? LOL!!

Ok, so, I'm wondering, is my body responding too well to my trigger shot and ovulating on the SAME day I trigger? And I've already ovulated by the time I go for my IUI? I tried discussing this with doc but he comes back saying that 12 days luteal phase is still within the normal range and ovulation occurs 36 hours after the trigger. What do you think? Am I ovulating the same day as trigger?

Baby dust to all!!
:dust:

Hi, sorry I can't answer your question, but was just wondering if you are on progesterone supplements (i.e. prometrium). I am 1dpiui (4th iui, 1st one with gonal-f) and I am starting progesterone vaginal suppositories 2dpiui for luteal support. At my clinic, this is standard protocol for luteal phase support post FSH injectables (for both iui and ivf) From what I have heard, your period doesn't show until you stop taking the supplements.

Could you feel the ovulation? I think I O'd 38 hours post trigger (textbook!) and my cramps were so bad I was in tears. The bloating and cramping has now subsided finally late today.

Fx'd 4th iui is a charm for both of us

No, I'm not on progesterone supps, but I read about it with short luteal phases. Of course my doc dismissed it as he feels 12 day LP is fine. I have progesterone pills from when I had to bring on a cycle, I've been so tempted to take them but I haven't. I didn't feel myself O, but I noticed EWCM the day before trigger and day of trigger. Then, day of IUI I was dry and doc had trouble inserting syringe past cervix (closed after O?)
I'm just so confused!

Hi Toughcookie,

Sorry for such a late reply. How are things? After reading your last post, I was just wondering if you were being monitored with U/S and blood work, I assume you were. My RE had me to OPK's along with my monitoring just in case I surged before the trigger.

From what I understand, a 12 day luteal phase is fine, and only needs treating if it is shorter than 10. I think most RE's use progesterone support with injectable cycles and there is no harm in doing so so I don't see why your doc would oppose it.

How did #4 turn out for you? Sadly mine was ectopic and I had methotrexate. We are most likely moving onto IVF once we are allowed to try again.
