I have a 6 month preemie. My Peditrican is sending her to a developemental specialist because he's doesn't think she's doing what's she suppose to be doing. Although she's suppose to be 4 months old. One of the things she should be doing is rolling and sitting with little support which she can't do. According to the peditrician sence she sleeps on her stomach she should have strong arms to push herself up higher which she don't. She only pushes herself up just enough to turn her head. oh and another concern I have is my daughter won't move her arms out. She looks like she has chicken arms. When I go to lift her arms up her shoulders or roter cups are tight and stiff.

sorry i dnt want to r and r but i dnt have any advice. every baby is dif but the pediatrician will be able to help. we are all here to support you though xxx

IMO 4 months is very early to expect a baby to be rolling and sitting a little. My lo wasn't doing these at 4 months. By 5 months corrected she had rolled a couple of times but didn't really seem keen to do it until 6 months corrected when she started rolling everywhere all the time!

I can't remember at what age she started pushing up with her arms but I remember for ages she would only lift her head enough so she could eat what she was lying on and I was worried she would never crawl.

What has the paed said about her arms? Maybe a developmental specialist may be able to give you some exercises so they aren't as stiff.

Hope everything goes well. Xx

well seing the developmental ped is a good thing we are seeing one as my sons neonatologist suggest. teh good thing is that your LO can get OT which they may need, i would not be worried even though all the things your current ped is asking of your LO i think is a little unrealistic

Hun I don't think you should be worried, they are asking too much! It took absolute months for my LO to get the hang of rolling and crawling, and neonatal check ups believed she was doing just fine for her age. And she did :)

Don't let them put pressure on you, I think they are jumping the gun a bit there!

Wow, I agree that is totally jumping the gun.
Millie has been under the physio since NNU and not long after she came home, the physio told me that she would be looking to see her sitting unaided or very very close to it, by her first birthday, which would make her 9 months corrected. She did it literallt about 10 days before her first birthday.
She turned one last August and only stared crawling at Christmas, so she is doing things, but very much ij her own time, I suspect your LO is the same. As if premmie mums don't have enough to worry abpout without medical professionals putting the fear of god in you before it is even necassary! Oh well, just look at it as a bonus, better to be safe than sorry, and your little one is getting precautionary care I guess!
