I lost my baby at 15 weeks nearly 7 weeks ago, I still haven't had pm results yet - my doctor will give these to me I think. But I would really like to see a consultant/specialist who will discuss what happened to me and also the results. Is this what I should expect?

I have had such a rubbish time with my healthcare providers, including a call from a midwife 2 weeks ago wanting to know why I missed my appointment and ended the conversration with a 'hope you are pregnany soon!' . Absolutely clueless

When I had my miscarriage, I was told that I would be referred to a consultant who specialises in 2nd trimester losses. All my lab results would be forwarded to him to follow up. Perhaps you should contact the hospital you were in to enquire about this? I was told to wait 6-8 weeks for the results but ended up waiting 11 weeks for my appointment.

I rang the antenatal clinic few days after to cancel all my appointments. This was in Dec 2011. Just last week, I got a call from a nurse saying I had missed my Glucose test appointment. I was really annoyed and said that I had already cancelled all my appointments when I lost my son 3 months ago. She was apologetic after.

Annoying, isn't it? You would think they would be really understanding after what we went through and provide more support than usual ...

*sigh*

I'm not sure if we have spoken before, I'm so sorry for your loss.

Wow, your midwife sounds so insensitive, you think she'd know better!

After I gave birth, a consultant had come up to our room, and gave us some quick info about what would happen next. We saw the same lady 8 weeks after I gave birth, to get all the test results etc. At that time, we also discussed a plan for when I was next pregnant (as I had told her we were planning to try asap). At the 8 week appt she went through all the test results (there were loads done) and told us basically what they think went wrong (and what they ruled out).

If you want a consultant appointment, and they don't offer you one, I would just request it. They are the right people to give you the results, and answer any questions, I don't think your GP is specialised enough. You'll want to make sure you can get all the answers you need, so it's probably better to go to a specialist.

I hope you get an appointment soon, and you get some answers xx

We didn't. We had a loss at 14.5 weeks. We made a decision to consider our family histories (no genetic disorders) and my health record (nothing indicative of reproductive failure on my part) and contributed our loss to it being a 'normal' kind of loss. We are very close to delivering what everything indicates will be a healthy baby. Having said that, we decided that if we had another loss that we would stop to consider if we wanted to try again as it was so heartbreaking the first time.

I'm sorry for your loss and hope that you find success when you decide to try again.

Thanks for your replies :flower:

The issue is I was 250 miles from home (on business) when it happened so think that is some of the problem which is why my GP is chasing the results. I just like to know as much info as possible and would like to discuss it with someone who is knowledgable. So I think I will ask my GP for a referral.

I am sure it will be a 'no reason' loss and we have no family history of problems and I already have my DD - but just would like to know

The midwives made me so upset, I was having lots of bleeding episodes and despite being told that my midwife would keep in touch and give me lots of tlc as I was finding it hard she never even rang to follow up on the 7 early scans I had and a visit to a&e - really upsets me

hello, sorry for your loss.
i lost my baby girl Sophia, at 24 weeks on February 28th. just this week i had a appointment with a fetal medicine Dr. she told me what she think happened (incompetent cervix) and basically explained to me what i would do for a future pregnancy. she was great, she said i will have a team of drs working with me next time, and discussed what we would do to prevent it from happened. (progesterone shots, cervical checks, and if my cervix starts to shorten a cerclage) i think the appointment helped me to know that there is hope for me to carry future pregnancy to term and that i will have many drs keeping a very close eye on me. i would suggest it to you and anyone else

naitken, just wanted to congratulate you on the birth of your baby! that is so great for you, it gives me so much hope.

I still haven't had PM results so spoke to consultants reception and should get it soon - they offered me an appt with her to chat about the results, but as I am so far away they have agreed to refer me to a more local consultant, which I am really happy about

When I spoke to my GP this week he said I wouldn't get a consultant appt unless I have had multiple losses, so am glad I will.

Really sorry about your loss and I am glad your appointment gave you some future hope, I feel okay about it all but would just like to know if anything can be done to prevent it happening again
