Should poo really do this???

What about food allergies? Does she get a rash anywhere else? Like on her face, neck, back & chest?

She has eczema, especially on her face, but as I say on her bum it isn't really a rash it is like the skin has been scraped off in patches.

It doesn't look like eczema on her tushie?

Is it like this? [Very sad baby butt here.]
Apparently, diaper rashes can get pretty horrible. I found this page of remedies.. Some of them sound harmless otherwise, but some I might not try in fears that it's something other than a diaper rash.

My favorite is the breastmilk idea. Boobiemilk is really awesome! I even read it's safe to flush out LO's eyes, if there's an infection or even just a hair stuck in there! If you try it, let us know how it works!

Omg that poor baby - thank god my LO isn't that bad! The raw patches look similar though there isn't generalized redness on my LO.

Thomas recently got a very bad rash, and I am pretty sure it was from food as he had some new things (curry, broccoli).

I had to change to using disposables with a liner in them, changing him at least 2 hourly and slathering on the sudocrem. As soon as he poo'd I changed him - I had to keep checking his nappy constantly to make sure there wasn't any poo in there.

I don't think the rash was as bad as what you are describing you LO's, but it was the worst one he's ever had and he cried out in pain and struggled to get away from me if I touched it. Wiping it was agony for him, so to clean it I would soak a small piece of cotton in some warm water and just hold it on the area.

It's still a bit red and bumpy but getting better.

If you don't want to wreck you cloth nappies (I have sudocrem on two of mine that wont come off!) how about using a liner? Maybe make your own fleece or cotton liners.

Eva rarely gets a proper bum weepy rash but when she does even the tiniest sore can take FOREVER to heal. But as long as i prevent them she doesn't get a rash for weeks. I put something on Eva's bum after nearly every change. Do you do this when there isn't a bad bum rash? i know you need to get rid of the current bum rash but maybe once it's gone be vigilant with the applications every day.

If the poo smells like vinegar then it is connected to her teeth. Is she has ex on her bum then ask the doctor for strong ointment that will act as a barrier!

If she had a milk intolerance it may be causing diarrhea and tha could be cauing the burning!

Yeah I use fleece liners to protect the nappies. I will start putting her beeswax ointment on every change whether there is rash or not.

It isn't vinegary (although it has been in the past and still no sign of teeth!) and not runny, if anything it is stiffer than normal as she is eating more solids.

my sister baby had this a few times (while she breastfed and also after LO was on solids) and it turned out to be an allergy to what my sister ate or that she (LO) ate. She was later diagnosed as gluten intolerant and now has no problems since they have kept that out of both of their diets.

I am not saying it is gluten, but it could be any number of food allergies, some of which pass through breastmilk, so maybe keep a food diary and see if there are correlations between food and the soreness appearing.

Either way, like another said, I would take a picture and show it to a doctor. It took my sister forever to figure it out because the rash would go away before she could show anyone!

Good luck and hopefully your LO's tush starts to feel better. :)

We are trying to correlate food with eczema flare ups at the moment too, so I might see if bad eczema also correlated with weepy bum, her cheeks (face) are awful at the moment even though three days ago they looked to be clearing.

We were advised not to use anything else on our newborn but slightly damped cotton wool and water. Then if needed a cream with zinc & caster oil in? And told particularly not to use sudocream as it's too harsh & full of chemicals :( x

Have you thought about trying to go back to basics with her solids?

Bland foods for a few days like rice and chicken. Then add other foods that she regularly eats and see what happens?

I would say yes, its related to the eczema she probably has incredibly senstive skin, poo is toxic to babys skin and if your baby has senstive skin its probably worse. Sudocream is amazingg! If not ask the doctor if he can prescribe a cream that is better suited and more helpful to your daughters skin :D

She has had both issues before trying food while being breastfed, so would that mean I would have to exclude most foods too?

i know of alot of babies with horrible nappy rash and they also use cloth nappies and don't want to use the creams, but sudocream really is magic, for the sake of your bubba just use it for a couple of days and use the disposables. We use band aid's when we have a sore, use disposables when your daughter does.

I used to use disposables but this still happened to her bum! I also have tried sudocrem despite her being in cloth and it hasn't helped (and bepanthem).

Re thrush symptoms, this isn't persistent and starts to heal straight away as long as she gets lots of air on her bum. She has also never had oral thrush (I kept an eagle eye out for it because she spent such a long time being rubbish at latching).

Oh I forgot to say that I don't use wipes unless away from home (vacation etc.)

Summer rain: did you self diagnose the acidic food thing or is it something health professionals are aware of?

GP diagnosed it based on looking at the rash and asking me what i'd been having, and its on Dr Sears site as well, it was pretty clear in our case because literally 3-4 hours after I ate citrus fruits or had citrus juices he would do some really watery poo and it was like it was peeling his skin off while it was coming out, maybe TMI but it did help with figuring it out that the poo smelt citrusy as well-which is bizarre! xx

Well none of the poos since then have done any damage but I realised that she did start with a cold around that time and I wondered if that could cause noxious poo just like teething does??

(the doc prescribed me a cream that I can use to stop any further sores getting infected but had no advice about what caused it in the first place - wasn't concerned though)

yes a cold can cause 'teething' poo absolutely, the virus can make it a lot more acidic xx

LO used to get this before she was put on her special formula, the rash would be right round her little bum.

As soon as the things she has allergies to were eliminated from her diet it all cleared up and shes never had a rash since, even when I've not noticed a 'mini poo' (shes always constipated so pops out sheep poo nuggets occasionally) and its been there for a little while.
