babydevil, I love your stick insects! Unfortunately they're illegal to keep in Canada.

I'll post a picture of the pet we had who changed my life. His name was Charades and he was a curly hair tarantula (Brachypelma albopilosum). My husband had 5 tarantulas when we moved in together and Charades (I named him) was the first one I held, fed, saw molt (shed his exoskeleton) and because of him I got really into the hobby. In two short years we had bred Charades, he had hundreds of babies, one of which we still have and at one point we had over 200 tarantulas (not including his babies). We sold all but 2 when we moved to Ottawa. Charades was a male though and once males reach sexual maturity they only live about a year, sometimes more, sometimes less. I cried when he molted into maturity and I really cried when he died...he only lived 8 months after his final molt. It's weird to get attached to a spider but he opened my mind and I can't wait to get back into the hobby in a few years when we have the space and money. We still have my husband's very first tarantula, and one of Charades' babies. I also have Charades' dead body in my freezer...I can't bring myself to throw it away, and I also want to preserve it in alcohol. I'll put the pictures in the spoiler window so people who don't like spiders don't have to see.

Sorry for the lengthy post, I just like telling people about Charades, and I want people to see that spiders aren't so bad.

really why? x

The CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency) banned them because they could be an agricultural threat if someone were to let them loose. Same thing with tropical roaches, tropical beetles and any sort of giant land snail not native to Canada.

I am yet to collect him as he is still too young, but we get him in 4 weeks little Alfie, he is a Bichon Frise.
