Well after weeks of thinking Halle has colic, I'm now convinced she has silent reflux.

Her symptoms are;

*Always crying out as if in pain in her sleep... 24 hours a day!
* Always wanting to be held upright, will only really settle if she's in her car seat or baby bjorn
* Frequent wet hiccups
*Choking and gagging sounds while she's asleep- this REALLY freaks me out
* While bf'ing she'll arch her back and fuss and scream like she's in pain- it's not that i don't have milk- there's plenty of that
* I can hear fluid swishing up in her tummy- right up to her mouth, and then she'll pull a funny face like she has a horrid taste in her mouth.
* I've noticed that even though she doesn't obviously vomit, if you open her mouth during these episodes of gagging and strange faces that you can see milk vomit- but it never comes out as she swallows it :cry:

Do these symptoms sound like reflux???

I'm shattered, she was screaming allllllll night last night- I had maybe 2 hours sleep collectively- she's shattered.

I tooke her to the gp yesterday and said what I thought she had and she advised gaviscon. We've tried this, but it's so hard to give when breastfeeding :dohh: I've asked her for ranitidine, and she wasn't keen- but after pleading with her and telling her how desperate I am she's agreed, so Im picking up the 'script at 12 today.

Anyone had any luck with ranitidine (zantac)..... I'm pinning so much on this as I've had enough of seeing her in so much pain :cry: plus me and dh are shattered :hissy:

Good luck with it. Erin had very similar symptoms while I was breastfeeding too. Will she not drink the gaviscon? I used to make it up in a little bottle and she'd drink it no problem, either that or I'd syringe it after her feed... found it really helped alot. Before it was diagnosed I was too afraid to let her sleep in her cot at night because she'd frequently wake up in puddles of sick and be freezing, so I know how frustrating it can be.

Didnt want to read and run ... sounds like your going through the mill babe. Good luck with the drugs and I hope it helps. Is there anyone who can come over for a couple of hours to 'take over' whilst you get a couple of hours extra sleep? - this may help a little, or just get them to buy you a big bar of chocolate!!!. Sending you a big hug xxx

I can totally sympathise as Rebecca also suffers from silent reflux.

From what you have described it does sound like silent reflux.

Wont bore you with the long story but I eventually managed to get my Dr t prescibe Ranitadine and it was brilliant, we still use the gaviscon though.

It did take a few days for it to really take effect as their wee throats take time to heal but Rebecca has gone from screaming every time she even saw the bottle (as she was associating it with pain) to quite happily drinking from the bottle now.

She is on 0.4ml 3 times a day

Fingers crossed it works for Halle
