Hi ladies just wondering if you have any advice for a bubba with silent reflux. DD is content for maybe 30
mins a day - the rest of the time she is either eating, sleeping or screaming (of that's what it feels like!). I am taking her for cranial osteopathy tomorrow to see if that helps. I have also been prescribed some infant Gaviscon by the GP which I will pick up tomorrow. She isn't losing weight but cries when I put her down flat - is much more comfortable in the car seat but will still wake up and scream when we are in the car. She sicks up reasonably small amounts but they are mucousy and she has very frequent hiccups.

I was just wondering whether others have experienced this and what was best in your opinion? The Gaviscon is going to be a bit of a nightmare as it has to go in a bottle apparently and she is ebf but we shall see! Tia x

My son had this and it was haaaaaard work! He was the way you describe - basically if he was awake it seemed like he was crying. I could never put him flat - he would never lie on a play mat, a bit better in a bouncy chair but still couldn't get more than ten minutes out of him, same with the car seat. Hated lying in the pram, moses basket a non starter, essentially had to be held upright all the time or in a sling. He also had green poo and frequent hiccups and in the evening it seemed like his pain was worse. I'm sorry to say infant gaviscon did nothing for us and the Dr and HV were not all that interested as his weight gain was so good. In the end, I had to take him for some blood tests, as he had jaundice that seemed to go on forever so they checked his billirubin (he was five or six weeks old at the time I think). I saw a paediatrician there who agreed with my internet diagnosis of silent reflux and wrote to my GP asking him to prescribe omeprazole. He also told me to cut out all dairy and soya from my diet as I was also EBF. I did that and along with the medication things gradually improved. By four or five months he was content most of the time although it took a while longer than that for his sleep to improve. I think I would have had a hard time getting my GP to prescribe anything other than gaviscon if it wasn't for the letter. It really was a tough time for us, but it does get better. The best part about it was seeing that my son actually was a happy little boy when he started coming out of the other side of it, as I felt like he was just constantly miserable those first few months.

Our DS is 6 weeks old and at about 3 weeks old he changed into a horrible grumpy baby. If he wasn't sleeping or eating he was screaming. One day he screamed all day and wouldn't nap for longer than 10 mins so I got him to the docs who prescribed infant gaviscon. It worked a little but he was still a grump and obviously in pain so I took him back after 5 days and they witnessed his grumpiness and prescribed ranitidine as well as the gaviscon. It wasn't a miracle cure but he is noticeably better. We still have bad days but it has improved and he no longer screams all day.
I considered taking him back but it's not so bad that I can't deal with it anymore so we're just holding out and hoping it passes soon!

Thanks for the replies ladies - I took her for cranial osteopathy yesterday and she has been a different baby ever since! She slept all afternoon yesterday and then slept from 9.30pm until 2:15am. She then slept until 5.30ish. We haven't had any whinging at all today and yesterday evening when we really struggle with her she was a lot better. She was still a bit whingey but sooo much better than she has been. I haven't tried her with the Gaviscon yet as haven't needed it. Fingers crossed it stays like this x
