This is ridiculous. I just heard on the news that Similac is being recalled due to INSECT PART AND LARVAE being in the powder:growlmad: How could something like that happen from such a reputable brand. I've been feeding my little guy this brand since he was 6 weeks old.

OF COURSE I can't get on the webpage to see if the specific one I am using is affected. I've tried 3 differenct computers and the webpage just keeps trying to load. Then I try calling the 800 number and there's a recording that says they are experiencing large call volume and thus long wait times and that they encourage you to call back later. I figure it's too important so I don't mind waiting as long as I have to BUT it hangs up on you!!!!

Anyone else in the same boat?!?! I've had such problems with him and finding the right formula. He's never been totally settled... could I have been feeding him something that was making the situation worse!!!

Not in the same boat here, but wanted to say that's disgraceful hun. Alot of mums are probably feeling the same as you that's why you can't get through to them. Sorry no help but :hugs: xx

I also give Connor Similac. Fortunatly the cans I have at home are not part of the effected ones. My husband and I were just discussing whether or not to switch brands. I have only ever given him Similac and he does well on it so I worry about switching him now.
 I'm not gonna worry about it till I finish the cans I already have at home.

Abbott Voluntarily Recalls Certain Similac® Brand Powder Infant Formulas That Did Not Meet Its Quality Standards
Contact:
Consumer Hotline
(800) 986-8850

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Sept. 22, 2010 - ABBOTT PARK, Ill. - Abbott is initiating a proactive, voluntary recall of certain Similac-brand, powder infant formulas in the U.S., Puerto Rico, Guam and some countries in the Caribbean.

Abbott is recalling these products following an internal quality review, which detected the remote possibility of the presence of a small common beetle in the product produced in one production area in a single manufacturing facility. The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has determined that while the formula containing these beetles poses no immediate health risk, there is a possibility that infants who consume formula containing the beetles or their larvae, could experience symptoms of gastrointestinal discomfort and refusal to eat as a result of small insect parts irritating the GI tract. If these symptoms persist for more than a few days, a physician should be consulted.

The recall of these powder infant formulas includes:

Certain Similac powder product lines offered in plastic containers.
Certain Similac powder product lines offered in sizes such as 8-ounce, 12.4-ounce and 12.9-ounce cans.
To immediately find out if the product in your possession is included in this recall, parents and caregivers should visit www.similac.com/recall, and type in their lot number to determine if their product is affected, or call (800) 986-8850.

No Abbott liquid infant formulas are impacted. Products not involved in the recall include all Abbott Nutrition liquid ready-to-feed and concentrated infant formulas and all powder and liquid specialty formulas, such as Similac Expert Care™ Alimentum®, Elecare®, Similac Expert Care™ Neosure®, Similac® Human Milk Fortifier, and metabolic formulas for inherited disorders.

About the Recall

The company is implementing a plan to address this matter in the affected manufacturing facility, which is expected to be completed shortly. No other facilities or products are involved in this recall.
Abbott has consulted with the U.S. FDA regarding this recall.
Information for Parents and Caregivers

Products with affected lot numbers should be returned to Abbott at no cost to the consumer.
Parents and caregivers can go to www.similac.com/recall or call Abbott's consumer hotline, (800) 986-8850, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Both the website and the consumer hotline have specific details on how to complete the return process.

Sorry to all of you who have been feeding your babies this recalled formula :( I don't even have a child on formula anymore but it still Upsets me!! What is safe anymore? And a poor innocent helpless child being fed nasty bug infested formula :( that is disgusting, I wonder how long ago this happened & if it's been a while and they are just now realizing it. Awww this is so sad for all the babies who have drank it, breaks my heart! :nope:

Sorry to all you US ladies. It must be so worrying for you. I remember a while back when a lady in the UK found a live flour weevil in a tub of Cow and Gate in the UK. It's amazing that that can happen in this day and age. All the best :flower:

Its horrible, the list is ridiculously long. But if you are thinking of switching brands now.. buy the Target store brand formula... same as Similac and Enfamil but like half the price. Nolan is on the Soy version is doing better than being on Similac soy.

OMG! Terrible! :( It would be hard to trust them after this I imagine... but they will probably try even harder to avoid it from happening again iykwim? I don't know if I would feel comfortable continuing though.

I had my boys on the similac for lactose sensitivity and fed them the recalled formula. I'm very angry and feel just awful. I actually found a bug in a bottle that i was feeling one of them and just assumed some how it got into the bottle so I dumped it and made a new bottle. I saw the recall a week later and went to the website and typed in the lot number to the one i found the bug in and it was recalled! I feel terrible about it.

Hey hun I have the PDF file with all the lot numbers effected on my computer, I can email it to you so you can check yours? Just pm me your email if you still haven't been able to get in

Thanks.. Last night they finally realized that their webpage was not loading and posted that pdf which I was able to get. Of course the current tub I had was a recalled one. I am beside myself about this. He's been having so many stomach issues and I can't help but think I was feeding him something that could have caused it. I am disgusted and will never trust Similac again and will urge other moms to steer clear of using it. I got the money for the current tub back at the store I bought it but what about the other $300+ I spent on the stuff. I didn't keep the receipts or the tubs so I'll never see that money back. It's just so frustrating... you practically kill yourself washing and sterilizing bottles to make sure your little one is safe and then you find out it all of your efforts were wasted because what you were putting in the bottles was contaminated.

I totally agree with you <3 always and I know exactly how you feel. With my two little premature twins I'm super careful about keeping them healthy. I make people wash their hands all the time and I take time to sterilize everything. My little ones have been sick also. What are your babies symptoms?

My friend's daughter was REALLY sick too, she doesn't know if her tub was recalled because it was gone and she has been moved to a diff formula...so now she isn't sure if she really has a milk protein allergy (she's almost 6mo and has been on the formula almost that whole time so like 5mo with no issue) so for it to suddenly pop up seems weird to me. But she was puking almost nonstop and having very bad diarrhea too for about 1.5wks then they switched her about a week ago now (and the tub she's been using since the switch she knows isn't recalled) and she's been much better since

My twins were very spitty and also had diarrhea for awhile which I'm pretty sure was from the similac. I will never trust similac again. I now have the boys on Enfamil gentle ease.

He's had the same issues... spitting up, refusing bottles, and diarrhea. He's also been having stomach cramps. He just curls himself up in a little ball. I'll never know for sure if it was the similac but it makes me sick thinking about it. I've done a combo of bfing and ff since week 6 due to bf problems but I'm trying like crazy to get my supply back up to be able to bf him exclusively. Luckily I have quite a bit in the freezer that will get me by for a while. I don't know what I'll do after that because I will never trust formula again.

I'm so sorry your twins have been sick too... it's not fun! You want to enjoy this time and savor every minute but sometimes I find myself wishing time away. I try to keep positive (sometimes even lie to myself that he's getting better). Good luck I hope things get better soon!!

Today, Sunday, I finally got through the website in order to request my return envelope and label. The Similac website was not prepared for all this traffic and has been crashing since the recall was announced. If you go on now you should be fine. I had three large (32oz) tubs that I bought at the same time. My LO had already consumed two of those tubs before the recall was announced and has not had any unusual tummy problems. Of course she is a bit older and also eating solids, so not all of her diet is formula based. Although this is disturbing (and gross) I feel like it could be so much worse considering how many things have been recalled in recent years for e-coli, salmonella, or dangerous chemicals. At lease the bugs are natural. I am so sorry for all of you who have had babies become ill. I hope that you can all find a formula that you can trust from here on out.

i also have a daughter who has been on similac since she was 1.5 months old. i was so angry about the recall, and about their attitude about the recall. they pretty much said it wasnt a big deal...i'm thinking whomever said that didnt had a child using the formula in question. i am now using the meijer brand equivilant of similad sensitive. i'm not sure that i will ever switch back because she likes it and its a lot cheaper. there was NO way i was going to spend a ton of money to use the liquid similac and have them benefit from the recall. grrr...
