I named my 2 year old Jack after OH's grandpa. His brother's son is 2 years older and called Matthew Jack. I didn't even ask my SIL if she would mind, I didn't see an issue actually as its a family name and not even her son's first name. This thread has made me wonder if she may have been annoyed! Oops

If it's a family name, she should have just as much right to it as you. Especially if it's only your child's middle name. How often does your extended family call your child by their middle name?

If it was your child's first name, I'd be more understanding.
