My 3 week old is struggling to take much of a feed during the night due to falling asleep straight away. A few people have suggested moving up a teat size to see whether he takes more of a feed. The size 2 teats are not suggested until they are 3 months old.

Has anyone else used these teats on a baby that is so young?

How did you get on?

Our LO really struggled to feed for the first 2 weeks and we tried various different teats - TT stage 1, TT variflow and Nuk etc. Our midwife actually told us to try TT stage 2 (even though I wasn't sure it was a good idea as it says 3mths+).

Anyway we tried them, milk went down great but ten minutes later came back up again so we discontinued use!

I don't think there is any harm in trying - worst that can happen is LO will be sick. And if they don't work you can keep them for when LO is older.

Alternately have you tried TT variflow? They are from 0mths. Didn't work great for us but have friends who've said they solved a lot of newborn feeding problems.

HTH!

My LO was on size 2 teats from week one, size 3 teats from 2 months and she's now on size 4 teats at nearly 5 months, she should have been on them earlier because she needed them but i kept forgetting them whilst i was out lol. If they are too fast you can always save them for later, i did this with the size 3 teats. My newborn always used to fall asleep on the bottle though i dont know if it's anything to do with the teat size x

My LO has been on size 2 teats since he was about 3.5 weeks old and as not had any problems at all. He drains 5oz bottles in about 10 min and has no probs with being sick :)

Fran has been on size 2 teats since about 6wks old because she started falling asleep during feeds and taking up to an hour to finish a bottle. Although she dribbled ALOT at first, she soon got used to the size 2 and now polishes off a feed in about 10 mins lol!!

We did try the varyflow but she didn't get on with them - others LO's do though.

The ages are only a recommended guideline hun, don't take them as gospel xx

Our LO has been on TT vari-flow and they worked a treat for him since he was two weeks old! We tried the number two teat but they were still too slow for him. I think its just abit of trial and error. My SIL has a nightmare trying to find a teat to suit her LO and ended up with avent ones!

i was adviced by my HV to put my LO on size 2 when she was only 10days old as she was sucking the teat into a funny shape and then becoming fustrated and refusing the rest off the feed.

worked really well and didnt need to change to size 3 until she was 6 months.

give it a go and see if it works for ur LO can always change back if it doesnt work.

have you tried variflow?
worked great for us as LO was getting frustrated that not enogh was coming out

I've started to try size 2 teats. As bigbetty mentioned, my LO is also dribbling quite a bit with them at the moment, but seems to be getting used to them. If these teats dont work, I will try the vary flow ones as well.

I've noticed often now when he's sucking, the teat gets pushed into a funny shape often. My understanding is that this may be because he's sucking too hard to get the milk out. Fingers crossed these teats will work and he'll start taking more at night x

morgan was the same, dripple all down his cheek but he got the hang of it, morgan was just 3wk when on size2 also x

Took Fran about a week to get used to them properly.

If the teats seem to collapse try gently squeezing the valve on the side open because sometimes they get stuck together or clogged up - when this happens the air doesn't flow through and creates a vaccuum xxx
