Our skyplus box is playing up, wont record or pause and all our programmes on planner have been lost  and its squeaking like there are 20 mice living in it!!!

we also have problems like programmes 'failing' to record and the box randomly switching off

SO

we rang sky been through all the usual.... press this.... hold that ...switch that off....stand on your head and press the red button for 5 mins :haha: and its still broke!! so they gave us our options £65 to service or X amount for a new box blah blah............my husband wants to move to Virgin now as he resents having to pay to get the sky box fix when we pay out each month for it but im not sure?

any views????

Virgin has been great for us. We started out with just fibre optic, then switched over to tv/phone/internet package because it was cheaper. than bt plus aol plus sky.

TV/internet services are fab. No problems but the phoneline has been a nightmare. It's partly their engineers, mostly their customer service. Luckily as the phone doesn't effect the internet so I haven't been that bothered. But if you use your land line a lot, I wouldn't switch that over.

we are already with virgin phone and internet without any problems (i never even knew this until now lol) but its just the tv, been with sky for 7 years now and i was sure virgin tv was suppose to be rubbish so i wanted to get some views before deciding x

Im sure if you say you want to cancel with sky they will convince you to stay, they had for me in the past and offered me a good deal. Be prepared though to cancel if you say you will as last time i said i was going to cancel they just did it for me no persuasion nothing lol. Damn them calling my bluff. Anyhoo we are now with virgin and i was adamant id hate it but i do like it, on demand is great, although ive had a couple of times it didnt work for like an hr but thats nothing. All in all im impressed. Just a bit of a poo that its quite expensive !

Ah well then I would definitely recommend virgin tv :)

Just make sure you check the channel/package properly because their sales team will fib if they think it will make a difference.

We have the L package, never had problems at all, not one flicker, one fuzzy line or anything else even during storms and snow :)

i tried that mummytobe and didnt get very far LOL.

lol I did that with my mobile. I actually desperately just wanted to not be with 3 any more, but they kept calling me making it cheaper and cheaper. I ended up keeping my phone for £7 a month... can't complain really :p

hahahahahahahha how funny!!!!!!!!!

Everything is with Sky. My internet, phone and tv. I prefer them! My neighbour had Virgin and she said they were awful. I'm not a fan either.

If you take out Sky Protection they will replace your box for you free of charge.

I use the internet too much to trust sky with it. although I think virgin is throttling my speed a bit now... but still faster than any other provider. Aslo with the phone problems they did actually give us a refund for a few months line rental and half the cost towards a new phone.

Back to tv... although we got the L package so oh could "watch documentaries", the tv is now mainly used by the children to watch nickelodeon lol The only thing that MAY be a concern to you is that the channels with the naked ladies are in between the main channels and the kids channels so if your children scroll through they will see naked women EVEN IF YOU MANUALLY BLOCK THE CHANNEL!!!!

Call them to make sure they block the images before you let kids near the virgin box! I nearly died trying to explain the problem to customer service. They asked "which channels would you like us to block" and i started scrolling through and reading out all the names!!! (I should have just said the adult channels but i was so flustered I didn't think of that)

I use my internet all the time and I'm with Sky. My laptop, kindle, iphone, tv are all connected to the internet and I've not had any issues with Sky  infact I find them the best.

Oh my youngest has often been playing with the remote and i have come in to the front room to gay porn in the DAY TIME with sky!!! hahaha............. our sky box often fails to record things on planner and it gets a bit annoying, and virgin does sound better, it def does more than sky, my virgin phone and internet arent a problem at all.........but i do love sky tv but maybe its because i have never had anything else.........hmmmmm decisions!

oh and i was told sky protection is £8 a month! where as virgin fix and sort any problems for free x

We've always been with Virgin and never had any problems, the one time they did mess up for my mom they gave her six months free! It is expensive but I'd say worth it. x

Virgin told my friend to fix her cables it would be £65! I don't really know because I've had Sky for over 2 years and I wouldn't change.

As for the gay porn doesn't your box have a parental lock?

I was with virgin for about 3 years - crap crap and more crap,
- they cut me off several times claiming bills hadn't been paid but they were,
-they double charged me more than once,
-they missed 2 installation dates when I moved and tried to bill me £65 per missed visit until I eventually found out they were going to the old address,
-they constantly had technical issues with one of their products one week tv next week broadband
Enough was enough and I cancelled and went with sky who aren't brilliant but better than my experience with virgin

yes we do have parental lock ........now........lol!

my husband really wants to move to virgin, but i do love sky. which is why i am asking people for views, i asked on facebook too and majority speak highly of virgin.

Definitely Virgin. I hated being with Sky and losing the picture every time the weather got a bit crappy. Virgin customer service is way better then Sky as well. I have Tivo downstairs and V+ upstairs, prefer both of them over Sky+.

You gotta weigh up what you get channel wise with Virgin!

All my programs are mainly on Sky Living and I don't know if that comes with Virgin but I know there are few Sky channels you wont get.

yeah i checked the channels and get everything bar sky atlantic which my husband watches but he said he can download anyway..... works out cheaper moving to Virgin for us and at the moment they have an offer on which gives us two boxes both free and 6 months half price tv package XL and free installation so they are booked and coming monday to sort it all...........at the moment i cant even record or pause my tv and its SOOOOOOOOOOO annoying !!!! hurry up monday! thanks girls x
