Do all babies go up to the fast flow kind? Why? What age? We have some, but he's still using the slow flow ones.

Thanks!

I think this is one of those, 'every baby is different' things! When Max's food got thickened with gaviscon we went straight out and bought newborn variflow teats as that's what the advice was. But even though his milk is very thick the teat was just too fast and he kept spitting the milk back out and gulping air and choking a little bit on the milk so we went straight back to slow flow and they're still working great for us even though his milk is almost like a paste!

If your baby is happy with his teats then leave him to it! I'm sure he'll let you know when he's not. I've read they can become frustrated by the slow flow and give up on bottles if it's too slow. You could always try him on the faster flow and if he doesn't like it go back!

For Elyse we just started the medium flow nipples at 6 months, and she still has some slow flow ones. Until then, slow flow was perfect, and I remember trying medium flow out on her at around 3/4 months and it was too much for her.

So no I don't think all babies work themselves up to fast flowing ones. :)

I never used the slow teat always used the variflow (was suggested by MW), at 3months we swapped to medium and at 5months to fast. You change them when they are sucking madly at the teat but not getting alot, they'll then get tired and not take a full bottle.

We had to go to fast flow at 4 months. But different makes of teats are different speeds I think...

Alex hates the slow teats and I even think the teats she was on were medium ones to start with. Certainly not slow flow anyway.

Its actually turned ridulous as she 9 times out of ten refuses any posh teats and wants the cheapo latex ones!

Noah is 8 months and still has a hard time with fast flow nipples. I think we're using medium flow.

That is what callie is like to.. I bought her Im guessing 10 different kind of bottles.. and sooooo many different nipples.. she is SO picky.. the ONLY ones she would use were the slow flow cheap rubber ones (gerber).. and they dont even make medium flow :dohh: why I still dont know.. so she had the slow flow ones.. that she LOVES.. but were getting so small so she would suck her lips into the bottles.. so I tried to give her the bigger ones.. and she just gagges...so I went out and bought tons more.. and she just gagged on all of them so I ended up just making the slow flow ones bigger by cutting the ends off for a while.
then my mom went to the DOLLAR store out of all places.. and found medium flow ones.. that were rubber.. some no name ones.. and now she is using those like a champ!.. so picky.. but we got it figured out!
