Hi my daughter is nearly 8 weeks old (she was 6 1/2 weeks prem) and has bad trapped wind, she screams during and after feeds.
The hv advised to change from SMA Gold to SMA Comfort which we did, is there a transition stage when changing milks?
Yesterday evening she wouldn't settle at all and was screaming more than before, and only took half of what she would normally take.
Once she slept she did sleep for 5 hours which is more than she has ever done!

We use Tommee Tippee Anti colic bottles - size 2 teat.
We have tried infacol, dentinox and gripe water!

It is so frustrating and upsetting trying to feed her and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi becks! We moved from SMS gold to comfort using doctor brown bottles size two teats. We tried the tommee tippee anti colic but found they were not helping at all compared to the dr browns. I was thoroughly disappointed as the dr brown bottles are so big and combisum but I've had tj learn to embrace them!! After all I will follow whatever suits lo best! We use Infacol religiously and gripe water. Our lo is a lot better but still has 2-3 bad days a week which I've come to expect. It's horrible because
On these days he does not eat half as much as he normally would and seems in so much pain! Oh I forgot our lo is 7 weeks today. Have the symptoms of colic improved at all? If you don't mind me asking what colour are his stools? My doctor said green poo is a sign of colic...and ours is green!

I would suggest if nothing is helping go and see the dr.

I know how horrible it is and all I keep doing to reassure myself is it won't last forever!

Sounds like silent reflux. Google it and go to GP x

I gave my LO comfort milk and he cried so much after it, I think it was the thicker milk giving him tummy ache. I'd given him it because he was being really sick on 'normal' milk. I changed back to stage 1 milk and used Dr Brown's bottles instead and I've never looked back. Like the pp said, they are big and they do look like a science experiment, but they make a huge difference. I'd tried avent naturals which supposedly reduce wind and colic but they really didn't work.

Ok, my lo had diagnosed silent reflux, and had prescription formula, I'd say first things first, try not to worry, your doing a fab job, I know when my lo wouldn't settle, I thought it was something I was/wasn't doing.
Then try to change things one at a time. The things I would try are,
1 for being prem and early in age I'd change back to the size 1teat
2. You might find that the comfort milk is too thick for her, maybe try normal gold formula, and feed sitting up a little more, keep her sat up, for at lease 15 mins and try walking up and down the stairs a few times, this used to help my lo get his wind up.

Hope this help :flower:

Thank you for all the comments.

I have today spoken to the health visitor again as we have had a really bad weekend. She has been sick a lot and screaming (mainly in the evenings)! only taking 2/3rds of what she normally feeds.

The health visitor was really helpful and spoke to the doctor and the hospital and they think it could be an intolerance to cows milk so are going to prescribe a milk for me to try.

Her stools are a very dark greeny/blacky colour.

I don't know whether to try a different bottle too, but don't want to change too many things at once! I am at my whits end not knowing what to do for the best!!

Sounds like colic too. Try the prescription milk, if that works bonus.

She is definitely suffering with colic too, she is nightmare to wind..... We even use the TT Anti Colic + bottles which have a tube down the middle, but this hasn't helped, tried infacol, dentinox and she is still having gripe water!

I hope this milk helps with the sickness at least!!

The bottles only work with some babies. There are other anti colic bottles dr browns, man to name but a few, but I'd switch the milk first.

Have you tried https://www.nutramigen.co.uk/parent/products/nutramigen-aa/

Hope you get on ok, I know how bad these feeding issues make mums feel <3

Or I found this, that deals with both the allergy and colic
