i use aptamil but i was on SMA as first, i had a bad time with that as lily had very bad colic and wind as its hard to digest, but every babys different. but if it was me id go with cow & gate x
Every baby is different. Whilst one will thrive on a particular formula, another baby will struggle with it! Your best bet is to get in a few of the little cartons of ready-made formula - they're usually around 50p or thereabouts. That way you can try your baby on various ones, without forking out for the big tubs of powder
In a straight choice between SMA and C&G, for my baby, I'd go for C&G.
My lo uses aptamal as well. I have heard better things about c and g and aptamal. However it varys from LO to Lo and yours maybe better on sma. If i where you i would pick one and try your LO on it. Its up to you but i wouldnt get ready made cartons of them and try them just choice one to start with and use that. They are all made differently and trying them all could mess with your Lo tummys plus you would need to try it a while to work out which one is best. you will soon no if your Lo is having a problem with the formula and then you can change to a different one. My Lo is 30 days old and formula only lasts me a week. So you wouldnt end up wasting it as it could take that long for you to work out of its a good one. Just my advise though
We use SMA and have had no problems. I do however appreciate that this is a bit of a rarity. If you're worried I personally would avoid SMA just because of all the bad reputation it has. We chose SMA because both of us were SMA babies so it was a good option for us.
It's really a guessing game until LO is here and you can try it out. Buy a small amount (enough for a week max) of one, and if you have problems you can then switch.
thankyou girls
my mum used sma with me when i was a baby and my sister and loved it but then im hearin better things about cow n gate now so thats why i askedx
C&G is what I use and I can recommend it. If people have a problem with a particular formula, 9 times out of 10 it seems to be SMA causing the problem!
When I had to give up breastfeeding I used SMA with Harvey but it made him so constipated that I changed him to cow and gate...He has had no problems since.xx
i use aptimal- its the most like breast milk and is nice and light.
sophie was originally on sma gold which was quite think and she would throw up the whole feed so i changed it.
i cant comment on c&g.
i would highly recommend aptimal
When I had DD i initially wanted to breastfeed but unfortunately when the time came i had no milk so i tried her with c&g (that was what the mw brought me) but she wouldnt take it, tried her with sma and had no problems at all. With this one i intend on having a carton of each waiting, will try 1 first, whichever is brought to me probably and if that is ok thats the one will use, will let LO decide, its not me that has to thrive from it. Then i'll be shipping someone to the shops for meal supplies mighty fast hehe xx
I started on SMA just because It's what my mum used for all of us but it made LO constipated and midwife suggested changing to Cow and Gate because sma is thinner (?) and that a bigger baby would do better on Cow and Gate because its slightly thicker or something it fills them better though could be a load of crap lol
I started on Aptimel and Michael got really constipated. So I changed to Aptimel comfort, which didn't work. So we changed to Cow and Gate, and he's fine now. Never tried SMA, but I'd recommend Cow and Gate.
