Hey My girlfriend is 30 weeks pregnant, and we are just making sure we have everything ready. A bit early maybe but I'd rather be ready sooner rather than later :). So basically we don't know which formula to use. SMA or Cow n Gate. Any ideas or preferences? Thanks

for us cow and gate has proved best...sma seemed to cause him to be constipated though i think to an extent that happens to all formula fed babies :)

i was told to wait till you have had the baby and see what the hospital suggest, also some babies suit one and not the other, and until you try you wont know. We were given the option in hospital and used Cow and Gate and so far oliver has been fine
x

yea I suppose the babies have their own preference :) it's just that I have heard that SMA gives more constipation, diarhiea and vomitting. I think im leaning more towards cow n gate though. thanks so far :)

I used SMA with my son. Young and niave and just followed what everyone else was doing. I didn't put much planning into it a I planned to breastfeed

But now I would recommend aptamil
xx

I'd recommend cow and gate, which is what we use. Very few LO's have problems with it, particularly compared to SMA!

We started on aptamil, baby was very sick, switched to sma couldnt poop and finally ended up on cow and gate which we've had no problems with  xxx

Our HV recommended aptamil for us when we reintroduce dairy as it's gentle on their tummies apparently.

We haven't had any trouble with Cow and Gate, we chose this one as Callum was in the neonatal for a few days and was fed this so he was used to it xx

We tried SMA (as I was an SMA baby!), but it made my LO sick. Tried Aptimil, that worked, so stuck with it... Until it stopped working for her about 3 months later  Moved to C&G, that was fine, so she stayed on that for about 6 months. Then we ended up back on Aptimil, and she'll be on that till we stop giving formula.

I've only ever used Aptamil and never had any problems with it - it's been great. I've heard too that SMA can cause constipation, my HV said it's because it's a heavier formula where as Aptamil is quite light. Having said that Aptamil and Cow and Gate are made by the same company and Cow and Gate also seems to cause few problems from what I've read. I've never used Hipp organic so don't know about that. I wouldn't stock up on too much formula before your baby is born though as some babies get on better with some formulas rather than others. It might be a bit of trial and error. Good luck for the birth of your baby :flower:

We switched to formula after 3 weeks and put LO on cow and gate, mainly because it was the cheapest!
LO was on it 3 weeks and within a few days a rash appeared which over the weeks spread bit by bit. Health Visitor said it was the heat (LO was a late June baby), I wasn't convinced.
Took her to the doctors, they said it was her milk.
Switched her to SMA and she has been fine, no rash at all.
SMA made our son very constipated, we had him on Farleys (don't do it now, became Heinz I think) which was fab and very cheap. The SMA hasn't constipated Ella at all, she goes twice a day and is on a mixture of Hungry baby SMA at bedtime and the Gold during the day.
It is trial and error!

We started on Cow and Gate but then changed to Aptamil, it's widely known for being the easiest formula for most babies to digest. I just wish we had used it from the start! The only down side is it's abit more expensive than the others but only by about £1 :flower:

We use Cow and Gate and not had any problems so far with it. We haven't tried any other brand either.

We started off using SMA and it caused constipation in both of them, plus made my son very sick. So we switched to Cow and Gate and havn't had any problems since

I've used cow and gate since Ike was born. The main reason I chose it was because it was cheaper than the other ones, but he's been fine on it. =]

my LO is on SMA but has been having a few problems with constipation so id probably say try the cow and gate x
