I found this website by doing a search on information for babies that have IUGR. I am currently 25 w 2 d into my third pregnancy. Everything seemed to be going fine, except that bilateral choroid plexus cysts were found in the baby's brain at 18 weeks and still persist. Although I am concerned about the cysts, new developments are even more perplexing.
My previous 2 pregnancies were complicated as I will discuss below so I started having bi-weekly appointments with a maternal fetal medicine specialist since about 12 weeks. At our appointment at 24 w 1 day gestation, the ultrasound tech did a growth measurement on the baby. The findings were stunning for us. His head/brain measured at 25th percentile, the belly measured at the 8th percentile, and femur at the 3rd percentile. When the doctor came to speak with my husband and I, he said that the baby was small and that I need to eat more and reduce my stress level. Since I had the nuchal translucency ultrasound at 12 weeks that was within normal limits and the quad screen was within normal limits, he said it was probably something environmental.
Then I go home and search the Internet and get totally freaked out by all the information out there. I am pretty sure that this means my baby has IUGR. I am terrified and am looking for any positive light on this situation. Has anyone had a similar experience?
Notes about my previous pregnancies:
I had a baby boy (born August 2007) at 23 w 6 days at 15.7 ounces. The placenta was severely enlarged and there was reversed blood flow. The baby was severely growth restricted. I chose delivery by c-section. Baby lived for 3 days and passed away because his kidneys were very undeveloped and weren't passing urine. Doctors said experience was a "fluke" (I hate that word!) and was unlikely to happen again.
I had a baby girl (born December 2008) at 35 w 4 days at 6 pounds, 8 ounces. I had been having contractions since 32 weeks. I was taking medications to stop them. My daughter had to be on oxygen for 1 week and then stayed in hospital for 2 more weeks because her sucking reflex was too undeveloped. She know is a healthy 2 year old who is in the 75th percentile for height and weight.
Because of my past early delivery, I am being given weekly progesterone shots to prevent early contractions again.
