Small for gestational age

I had an appointment with the Obs registrar today due to having an under active thyroid and I happened to mention that I thought my first LO was a low birth weight for his gestation- he was 3.09kg which puts him on the second centile and his head was around the 5th. She wanted to plot his head circumference but it wasn't recorded in my notes so she said she would organise a growth scan.

I thought she was going to say it was all fine, I didn't even ask for the growth scan... But she said she would expect the baby to be bigger given me and my husbands height and build. I have no other risk factors so now I'm a bit worried about this baby.

My Lo is around the 9th centile now and pretty much always has been... So I don't know if that's a positive thing.

Anyone got any experience of this and what happened?

3kg is 6.6lb, doesn`t sound that small to me but I'm certainly not an expert!

don`t know if it will help but my son was a severe case of IUGR. He was also born 2nd percentile. You can follow the link below for the details. Short version is he`s a happy, thriving 3 year old

Thank you. He actually weighed 6lb 13 oz! It's difficult as be was born 42 weeks so its hard to know what he would have been if born earlier. Maybe I'm worrying about nothing. I've yet to see a consultant and as the measurements weren't plotted were all a bit still in the dark. I hope it turns out to be something and nothing.

I shouldn't think you have too much cause for concern. 6lb 13oz is a healthy size. My dd was also born with severe IUGR at 38wks with a weight of 3lb 15oz.
I hope you will get the answers you need when you see your consultant. Xx
