So my son went for his 4 month visit today at the ped, and his growth curves for height and weight were right on 50 percentile again...however his head circumference was either 10 percentile or below(unsure exactly)...the ped said not to worry and it had nothing to do with intelligence, etc and that he was growing great and was healthy. However of course I google it and find this thing on something called "microcephaly"(a disorder associated with a small head that can cause disabilities, ******ation, seizures, learning impairment). So now I'm all worried he may develop/have this! Has anyone else had a baby with a small head circumference and have everything turn out fine later on?? I hope it was nothing I did while pregnant...ugh..hate worrying! :dohh:

My friend has a year old daughter with microcephaly. You would know if your baby had it. Her head circumference is only 36cm now, which is what Thomas's was at birth.

She's severely disabled and can't smile, eat etc, has a feeding tube into her stomach.

I dont think its anything to worry about. My baby girl has been between 50-75% for weight and height and her head circumference has been 10-15%. They even said it was measuring small during my ultrasounds. Percentage doesnt really matter as long as it is staying at the same percentage and growth rate. They just have small heads! :haha:

Forgot to mention, Sophie's head circ isn't that big either and she's fine.

My husban worried about Thorrin because his is 5th percentile. But he's happy healthy alert and pretty smart I think. I kept telling him not to worry and so did pedo. So please don't worry!
It's more if their measurements are following the same pattern/lines on graph for them personally. For instance if he was measuring 90 percentile and then all of a sudden dropped to 5 percent and stayed there. Then there probably would be an issue.

Hey thanks for the replies all! Makes me feel more reassured...I know I shouldnt worry, but its in my nature lol. I guess he just has a small head, must be from his dad because I find my head to be slightly large. Ha. :haha:

My niece's was always small, her doctor used to say it wasn't normal, but she's a perfectly happy, healthy 2.5 year old!

Sounds like others have already said the important things. Also, if your husband has a small head, it's not too surprising that your baby may have inherited that trait.

Sorry to revive a dead thread...how is your little guy doing? My daughter was diagnosed at 26 months old with microcephaly. It occurs when the head circumference measures BELOW the 3rd percentile. My daughter is -4.7SD. At nearly 7, her HC is 45cm.

Hope your litle guy is doing well. Her struggles became more evident as she grew older, but overall, she's doing very well. Feel free to PM me if you ever need to chat.

I know this is an old thread but my 1 year old daughter has been diagnosed with microcephaly and I was wondering if there was someone who had been through this who I could message. She seems on track developmentally so far, just v v small! Would really appreciate speaking to someone who could give me some idea of what to expect. Thanks

Hi Holly! Send me a message. My 7 year old has microcephaly and I can direct you to some very supportive groups and help you the best I can

Thanks v much! Totally new to this forum and can't yet work out how to send a message, so if its a while til you get one, that will be why!

I think you need a certain number of posts before you can PM members, cuz I can't even PM you. My daughter has a website that you can contact me through though if that helps.

Google Zoe Microcephaly and it'll be the first one to come up.

My little girl went in for her "4 month" check when she was actually five months and she had the same stats as yours. 50% on height and weight but 10% on head. They told me not to worry as well and I am not going to. She is following her curve.

edit, sorry just realized this was an old thread:)
